New A2(TM) Universal Linker Kit Provides Customization of Protein Microarrays

Fullerton, California, March. 2003 - Beckman Coulter, Inc. introduces a new Universal Linker Lit for its A² MicroArray platform, delivering multiplexed identification and quantitation of proteins. Part of the new ProteomeLab™ family of products, the Universal Linker Kit and the new A² Reader enable the identification of up to 13 different analytes per well and more than a thousand results per 96-well A² plate. The kit contains the new A² MicroArray Plate - a 96-well plate prespotted with 13 unique oligonucleotides covalently bound into each well. The Universal Linker Kit provides complementary sequences, modified to attach to antibodies, of the 13 different oligonucleotides printed on the plate. The kit also contains the necessary reagents to quickly and easily conjugate these activated oligonucleotides to the antibodies of interest. By elevating the assay off the bottom of the microplate, the Universal Linker technology delivers improved sensitivity, over other methods. For assay reliability and accuracy, each of the different oligosequences, plus a 14th reference spot, are printed in each well in triplicate, for a total of 42 spots per well. Users can use commercially-available antibodies or their own proprietary antibodies for conjugation to universal linkers. By mixing and matching the protein panels of interest, researchers can obtain more relevant data in a shorter amount of time. "Our unique Universal Linker Kit allows users to tag their own antibodies," explains Brendan Yee, Strategic Marketing Manager for Beckman Coulter. "This DNA approach gives the user a simple and flexible method to perforn multiplexed immunoassays. Our chemistry allows users to easily design custom applications for protein research." In addition to the A² Plate, the Universal Linker Kit contains hybridization buffer, PBXL-Streptavidin, a hybridization control, and instructions. The easy-to-use A² platform can also be automated on an liquid handling system, such as the Biomek® FX, for even higher throughput. ProteomeLab is a new family of proteomic tools for cellular identification and protein isolation, fractionation, characterization and evaluation. These tools can ultimately be used to identify markers for the development of disease diagnostics and therapeutic targets. Beckman Coulter, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of instrument systems, chemistries and supplies that simplify and automate laboratory processes.
