Avery Dennison Introduces U.S. Industry's First 64-bit Print/Apply Labeling System with Corner-Wrap Capability at Pack Expo 2002

full line of printers, pallet labelers and print/apply systems for product ID and distribution applications round out the exhibit

The new 64-bit AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALX 924 Corner-Wrap Print/Apply System will be demonstrated at the Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas exhibit at Pack Expo International 2002, November 3-7, McCormick Place, Chicago, Ill. According to Kevin Young, the company's general manager, the new version of the AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALX 924 is the first 64-bit processor-based print/apply system with corner-wrap capability available in the U.S. market. The system was developed to address the increased customer demands for high-performance compliance labeling systems.

Also scheduled for display and demonstration are the AVERY DENNISON(TM) DPM Dispensing Print Module, AVERY DENNISON(TM) 64 04 Printer, AVERY DENNISON(TM) PLU Pallet Labeler, AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALS 380, economy-class printers for distributive applications, and AVERY DENNISON(TM) TDI Singles Tag Printer. At the show, Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas will occupy Booth N-4731.

Introducing the AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALX 924 Corner-Wrap Print/Apply System The AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALX 924 with corner-wrap capability prints 4-by-12-inch (or longer) product ID labels and automatically applies them to shipping cartons on packaging lines. For wider label applications additional models are available that offer up to 6-inch print widths. Labels are applied to the front face and then wrapped around the adjacent edge, so that identical bar coding and product ID data are displayed on both panels. The system's rugged aluminum corner-wrap assembly is designed for continuous-duty operation with few maintenance requirements.

"When cartons are palletized, carton labels can be hidden from view or difficult to locate for scanning," says Kevin Young, general manager of Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas. "As a result, supply chain managers often require product ID labels on two adjoining carton or box panels. The AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALX 924 with corner-wrap capability enables manufacturers and suppliers to meet these compliance labeling requirements."

The AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALX 924 Corner-Wrap Print/Apply System features 64-bit microprocessor technology, facilitating production of complex labels with constantly varying data. Its multi-tasking operating system simultaneously handles all communications and printing functions, eliminating delays or interruptions between print runs. These features, combined with a maximum print speed of 16 inches per second, large-capacity supply rolls, a high-efficiency ribbon saver, multilingual operator control panel and user-replaceable print head, yield exceptional labeling productivity.

Brief descriptions of the other products on exhibit appear below:

AVERY DENNISON(TM) DPM Dispensing Print Module Configured for easy integration into print-and-apply labeling systems, the AVERY DENNISON(TM) DPM Dispensing Print Module feature 64-bit microprocessor technology for extremely fast processing of complex labels with varying data. Three models are available with print widths of 4, 5 and 6 inches in both right- and left-hand orientations. The print modules offer high-quality 300-dpi printing, at maximum speeds of 16 inches per second (12 inches per second for the 6-inch-wide model). All DPMs are designed for high-volume, continuous duty cycle applications and offer a host of innovative features to maximize throughout and reduce downtime. Potential users include systems integrators and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

AVERY DENNISON(TM) 64 04 Printer
The AVERY DENNISON(TM) 64 04 Printer employs near-edge print technology to produce high-quality, 300-dpi graphics, bar codes and text. Maximum print speed is 16 inches per second. The printer's ribbon-save feature reduces costs in applications where portions of tags or labels are not printed. The 64 04 offer a 4-inch print width; three additional models are available with print widths of 5, 6 and 8 inches.

AVERY DENNISON(TM) PLU Pallet Labeler
The AVERY DENNISON(TM) PLU Pallet Labeler, available in print/apply or apply-only versions, automatically apply labels to multiple pallet sides without having to turn the pallets. This eliminates the need for pallet turntables, which are expensive to install and maintain and take up valuable space in distribution centers and warehouses. The labelers have a user-programmable height adjustment feature, enabling them to easily handle pallets of varying sizes.

AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALS 380
The AVERY DENNISON(TM) ALS 380 applies preprinted bar-coded labels to boxes, cartons or products on fast-moving production lines, enabling users to meet compliance labeling requirements. The system has a maximum dispensing rate of 1,000 labels per minute. Its on-board Automatic Product Speed Follower (APSF) synchronizes the system's labeling speed with production line speed, ensuring accurate label placement.

Economy-Class Printers for Distributive Applications
A new line of economy-class printers is specifically designed for distributive work environments in manufacturing, warehouse and distribution facilities. They can be used at dedicated work stations within these facilities, or deployed on carts and moved from job to job as needed. These low-cost printers feature 4-inch print widths, 200-dpi print resolutions, and print speeds of 3 or 6 inches per second depending on the model.

AVERY DENNISON(TM) TDI SinglesTag Printer
The AVERY DENNISON(TM) TDI SinglesTag Printer features high-quality variable-data imprinting capabilities, offering users a cost-effective alternative to expensive preprinted tag inventories. The printer's near-edge print technology and 300-dpi resolution create sharp, near-offset-quality bar codes and human-readable characters. Printhead pressure adjusts to various stock thicknesses, maintaining print quality in applications ranging from small brand-image tags to heavier blister-pack cards.

Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas will also exhibit its full line of consumables for product ID packaging applications, including carton labels, printer ribbons and Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) tags and labels.
