Datacard Debuts Label Affixing Module for New High-Volume Card Issuance System

Module expands capabilities of 3,000 card-per-hour Maxsys system

Orlando, Fla. - May 13, 2003 - Datacard Group demonstrated a new label affixing module for the Datacard® Maxsys(TM) card issuance system at the CardTech/SecurTech 2003 Conference and Exhibition today in Orlando. The new module accurately affixes up to 3,000 labels per hour - keeping pace with the other modules in the Maxsys(TM) system. Common applications include card activation notices, promotional coupons and service notifications.

"The label affixing capability is a critical feature for many high-volume card issuers, especially in the financial and retail markets," said Kent Shields, senior vice president and general manager of Datacard's hardware division. "The 3,000 label-per-hour capability is clearly a new standard and part of a very compelling and important productivity story.

"The introduction of this new module also signals an important strategic direction for Datacard and our customers," Shields added. "We completely re-invented high-volume card issuance in the early 1990s when we introduced our modular, inline design philosophy. We told our customers that we would protect their investments by continuously developing new and enhanced modules.

"This label affixing module is the first in a long line of new Maxsys modules we will bring to market in the coming months," Shields said. "This module - along with other new capabilities - will extend our strong heritage and provide our customers with strong investment protection."

The Maxsys system, which is designed for high-volume card issuance as well as cost-effective management of small job runs, offers a full range of modular capabilities, including embossing, topping, indent printing, smart card personalization, magnetic stripe encoding, graphics printing and card cleaning.

"Maxsys sets entirely new standards for throughput, reliability and quality in high-volume card issuance," Shields said. "Card issuers looking to drive productivity and minimize per-card costs need to take a close look at Maxsys. It is clearly the future of high-volume card issuance."
