Paxar Announces Industry's First Service Bureau Providing Complete RFID Programmed Labels in As Little As 48 Hours

WHITE PLAINS, NY, April 12, 2004--Paxar Corporation (NYSE: PXR), a global leader providing bar code and identification technologies for the retail supply chain and the supplier of Monarch® brand products and services, today announced its groundbreaking Monarch® Q-Service(TM) for RFID offering, the industry's first RFID Service Bureau offering. The new service allows suppliers to Wal-Mart and others needing RFID shipping and pallet labels the opportunity to get these labels, already programmed with their unique, specified RFID data and printed with bar code and human readable data, in as little as 48 hours. Now, suppliers can meet Wal-Mart's (or other companies') current RFID needs virtually immediately, and begin shipping product with RFID labels, with no investment in hardware or systems.

The Monarch Q-Service for RFID program is a natural extension for Paxar, building on its successful Q-Service(TM) program, which supplies preprinted bar code labels to the retail supply chain. Companies needing RFID programmed labels now can simply provide Paxar with the data to be encoded, and the human readable and bar code information to print on the RFID label. Paxar takes care of verifying the RFID chip, encoding the data, and printing the label. The finished labels are shipped in as little as 48 hours.

"With this unique program, suppliers can begin meeting RFID mandates immediately and easily, with absolutely no investment in specialized systems or equipment," said Rick Bauer, senior director, RFID Technical Research. "We like to call the program 'We Supply, You Comply'. It really is that simple. It truly is Hassle Free RFID."
