Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas Enters Desktop Market with Economically Priced, 6-Inch-Per-Second Label Printer

new printer is designed for on-demand retail, shipping/receiving, warehousing and general product ID applications

A new fast, versatile label printer with a compact footprint and broad compatibility is now available from Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas. The printer, called the AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 3.4, is the company's first product entry specifically designed for on-demand desktop labeling applications. At a fourth-quarter 2002 list price of $895, the printer costs significantly less than most competing desktop printers with similar features.

The AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 3.4 Printer employs direct thermal/thermal
transfer technology to produce most popular 1D and 2D bar codes, graphics and human-readable copy, at a maximum print speed of 6 inches per second and print resolution of 203 dots per inch (dpi). The 9-inch-high printer has a small 12.3- by 8.6-inch footprint, making it ideal for limited-space desktop applications.

According to Director of Marketing Mark Hansinger, the AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 3.4 Printer fills a "desktop gap" in the company's product offering and makes Avery Dennison one of the few suppliers that can deliver a full range of label printing systems. "The introduction of the AP 3.4 desktop printer complements our line of benchtop and continuous-duty printers, and print/apply labeling systems," says Hansinger.

"Prior to this product addition, Avery Dennison was not a candidate supplier for market segments with desktop printing needs. We believe the desktop market will rapidly discover us to be a particularly attractive printer supply source. Avery Dennison is a world leader in the areas of label printer technology and variable product identification. Our experience, along with our business, technical and consulting expertise, will be a valuable resource to all who select Avery Dennison to support their label printing requirements."

Eltron Emulation Feature

Unlike most competing printers, the AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 3.4 Printer has a built-in Eltron emulation feature, ensuring broad compatibility with many currently installed printer systems and devices. The feature allows simple, plug-in conversions from other Eltron-emulation printers, including the Zebra Ht-146.

The AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 3.4 satisfies a wide variety of label applications, including shelf and price labels, shipping and receiving labels, compliance labels, pallet labels, and work-in-progress tickets, along with many other industry-specific product identification requirements. The printer handles label media up to 4.3 inches wide and up to .01 inch thick. Print width is 4.25 inches.

Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas also offers an economy desktop printer for users that do not require 6-inch-per-second print speeds or require an even smaller footprint. The AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 2.4 Printer features a maximum 3-ips print speed, 203-dpi print resolution, and 4.2-inch print width. The 6-inch-high printer has a 10.9- by 7.3-inch footprint. The thermal transfer version of the printer is priced at $595.

AVERY DENNISON(TM) AP 3.4 and 2.4 Printers can be supplied with various options and forms-handling accessories, including dispense, cutter and keyboard display unit for standalone operation. Both printers carry a six-month printhead warranty and a one-year warranty covering other components.
