Supports over 1,200 thermal/thermal transfer printers

MILWAUKEE - Oct. 2, 2002 - TEKLYNX® International, the world's leading developer of software products for the AIDC marketplace, today announced numerous enhancements to its LABEL MATRIX® label design software. Called LABEL MATRIX 7.0, the new version adds several usability features to its already robust list. LABEL MATRIX 7.0 design software is available in three versions: LABEL MATRIX QuickDraw, a single-user program for basic label design tasks; LABEL MATRIX, a full-function networkable design system for high-volume label printing; and LABEL MATRIX PowerPro, a full-featured networkable label designer offering advanced data integration capabilities.

Enhancements fall into three main categories:

Usability - LABEL MATRIX software now includes a new Custom Shapes feature that enables users to design custom shapes from a variety of shape templates using Windows MetaFile (.WMF) formats which can then be inserted into the LABEL MATRIX directory structure of custom shapes. The Custom Shapes can then be selected from a drop list of categories including arrows, traffic signs, chemical warning signs, or other groupings, to be easily applied to a label design.

In order to improve the accuracy and consistency of free-form text or bar code fields on labels, LABEL MATRIX software can now require double entry verification of keyboard input at print time to validate correct entries. This is helpful in situations when a value, such as a custom paint color for a paint can label, needs to be precisely generated. Users can enter the color name and be prompted to repeat it to ensure label accuracy.

For situations where there is a limited choice of values, for instance small, medium or large size markings, LABEL MATRIX label design software now offers a drop-down Pick List feature that enables users to select a value to be included in the printed label. This eliminates users having to type in a value while significantly reducing the chance of errors and ensuring that labels in different runs have consistent information and the same look.

Bar codes and printing - LABEL MATRIX software has expanded its support for a wide range of industry-standard bar code symbologies by adding support for the PLANET Code, the bar code symbology standard for the U.S. Postal Service's CONFIRM online mail tracking system.

This latest version includes significant printer enhancements. In addition to working with any Windows-supported dot matrix, ink jet and laser printer, LABEL MATRIX label design software incorporates printer drivers from other TEKLYNX products, bringing the number of thermal and thermal transfer printers supported by LABEL MATRIX to well over 1,200. Another printing enhancement is the addition of a new Windows print spooling ability that allows thermal printers to queue print jobs just as standard Windows printers do. This gives additional network and printing flexibility by enabling LABEL MATRIX to print to several printers at once.

Database and reporting - LABEL MATRIX 7.0 software also boasts new database and reporting tools. The internal database module has been enhanced to support several more database types. The database module reads and writes dBase (dBase III or IV) files, and it can open and modify other database types using Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC) drivers, provided they are installed on the PC. Also, customer reports can be created using LABEL MATRIX PowerPro software's LogView feature, which allows users to generate reports from log files that are automatically created when labels are printed.

"LABEL MATRIX label design software continues to evolve," commented Janick Villanneau, product manager for label design at TEKLYNX International. "As we integrate it into the TEKLYNX family of products, we are continuing to add user-requested features to help build on its solid base as a leading mid-range label design software product. These enhancements will help resellers and their customers easily design and implement their labeling systems with a great deal of flexibility and easy to use power."
