Primera® Introduces Impressa® 3 Digital Label & Decal Press at Label Expo Europe 2001

Prints and Cuts Full-Color, Continuous-Tone Labels and Decals in Any Size or S1ape.

PLYMOUTH, MINNESOTA, U.S.A. (September 15, 2001) - Primera Technology, Inc., a leading manufacturer of specialty color printers, today announced that it will unveil its new Impressa 3 Digital Label & Decal Press at the upcoming Label Expo Europe show in Brussels, Belgium. The product will be shown on Stand 5103 at the Parc des Expositions from the 26th to the 29th of September 2001.

Impressa 3 is a new, third-generation digital label and decal press designed for production environments. It prints and cuts full-color, photo-quality labels and decals in any size or shape, all within a single unit. It is priced many thousands of dollars less than other digital label presses, none of which include the ability to digitally cut labels while printing.

Developed for anyone needing professional-quality, affordable labels and decals, Impressa 3 is appropriate for a wide range of customers. Professional printers, including flexographic, offset, screen, sign and quick printers can now build new profits on short-run label printing jobs. Manufacturers, retailers, advertising specialty houses and other service bureaus can now quickly and easily produce high-quality labels and decals in-house, avoiding the delays and expensive set- up charges from outside sources.

Saves Time and Money
Since the entire process is digital, Impressa 3 eliminates the need for negatives, plates, artwork, make-ready, dies, inks or clean up. Utilizing Primera's unique, patented Digital DieCut technology, Impressa 3 can cut any shape, including complicated contour cuts around artwork. This completely eliminates the need for expensive hard-tooled rotary or flat dies.

"The affordable price and overall operating efficiency of Impressa 3 makes the cost-justification of this machine very simple," said Mark D. Strobel, Primera's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Impressa 3 is the perfect solution for any company needing to produce from a few hundred to many thousands of labels at a time."

Reliable Performance
Impressa 3 features an entirely new print engine from its predecessor. It has a straight paper path and roll-fed substrates. This ensures reliable operation with a wide variety of materials, including polyesters and vinyl. Users can easily switch from one type of media to another without having to realign or change the set-up of the machine.

Impressa 3 has been designed for unattended, problem-free operation. A straight paper path and roll-fed materials ensure that longer runs can be printed and cut without paper jams or other error conditions. The integrated control panel with LCD display tells the operator at all times what is happening and if any operator intervention such as replenishing materials is required.

Easy to Use Formatting Software
Impressa 3 ships with PressPrint for Windows® software, developed specifically for digital label and decal production. This easy to use yet powerful software program allows operators to quickly import customer files, multiply them on a page, set the desired cut patterns and print the desired quantity of output.

Since PressPrint supports 22 different languages, users can install and run the software in their native language. Available languages include English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese and many others.

Precision Digital Die-Cut Technology
Impressa 3 is unique among digital label presses with its built-in Digital Die-Cut capabilities. Shapes can include simple die-cuts such as squares, circles, starbursts and triangles, as well as complicated contour cuts that precisely follow the outline of artwork. All cutting is done digitally and "on-the-fly" as the next labels are being printed. Digital Die-Cutting eliminates the delays and high costs normally incurred for most shapes beyond circles, rectangles and squares.

PANTONE® and PrimaColor Color Matching Software
Impressa 3 allows users to produce virtually any PANTONE matched color using the included PANTONE Color Matching Software. With it, users can import a full PANTONE palette directly into PressPrint or other graphic design programs such as Adobe® Illustrator®. For precisely matched photographic color and true-to-life skin tones, users may also select PrimaColorTm by Candela®, an additional software tool that is built into Impressa 3's driver software.

Mike Mockridge, president of Mockridge Label & Nameplate Ltd. in Manchester, England, says, "Prior to purchasing our current Impressa 2 machines, we had looked at other digital presses. But none of them were capable of producing solid PANTONE matches or small typefaces, both of which are required for the label business." He adds "we find the machine very easy to use. If you can print a letter on your computer, then you can use Impressa. We are looking forward to bringing Impressa 3 machines into our company."

Impressa 3 sells for US$17,995 (MSRP). It is compatible with Windows 98, Me and 2000, and can be operated from virtually any PC with a Pentium® III/ IV (or greater) processor with a minimum of 128MB of RAM.
