Scientific Software to Preview OpenLAB(TM) at Pittcon 2002

Pleasanton, California (March 15, 2002) - Scientific Software Inc., a leader in informatics and analysis solutions to the scientific community, will be previewing the revolutionary web-based OpenLAB Laboratory Integration Framework for the Enterprise (LIFE) at Pittcon(R) 2002, held March 17-22, 2002 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

OpenLAB LIFE is a new approach to instrument control and data management in the laboratory. It will consist of hardware and software components built with recognized open standards and the Microsoft(R).NET framework. These components are network based and modular and they can be deployed in a distributed fashion over a wide variety of laboratory environments. OpenLAB's integrated workflow engine will enable streamlining work processes throughout the laboratory while the analysis servers will support a wide variety of analytical and bio-analytical techniques.

OpenLAB LIFE utilizes open standards such as:
- Web Services - to provide server based core functionality for data acquisition, generic instrument control, data analysis and reporting
- ASP - to provide user interface in a standard web browser
- XML - to provide platform independent communications between modules

OpenLAB will enable control of instruments via the iBox, a novel new laboratory interface. This innovative device will utilize Windows CE(TM).Net technology to provide instrument communications and control in a very compact device. This will simplify validation and administration as well as provide a touch-screen interface for the end user to set conditions for data acquisition and control.

OpenLAB will be fully integrated with Scientific Software's CyberLAB Knowledge Engineering System. This integrated package will provide for the first time a complete data acquisition, data analysis, reporting and knowledge management system fully compliant with 21 CFR Part 11 and GXP requirements.

"Customers have been demanding an architecture that will lower their costs of administration and validation while improving the work processes," Said Dr. Soheil Saadat, President and CEO of Scientific Software, Inc. "OpenLAB is the next step toward our vision of an integrated laboratory environment based on open standards."
