L.J. Star Standardizes on Gylon®Gaskets for Sight Glasses and Sight Flow Indicators

In an effort to continuously improve its products, L.J. Star is implementing a new standard gasket material for all L.J. Star sight flow indicator and sight glass assemblies. The gasket material, Garlock Gylon 3504 and BIO-LOK(TM)(hygienic type), allows for higher temperature capability, improved performance within chemical environments, faster delivery times on sightflow indicators and sight glasses, and easier installation and gasket replacement.

"It is always our intent to provide the best possible materials and as a result, we have made the decision to move from a PTFE envelope style gasket to Garlock Gylon 3504," said Jeff LaFleur, L.J. Star General Manager. "We have been monitoring the performance of this gasket in the full range of process applications, industrial and hygienic," he said. "It has performed flawlessly." Used as a sight flow indicator gasket and sight glass gasket, Gylon 3504 is a proprietary modified PTFE material that is virtually immune to the degradation caused by typical process chemicals. Gaskets made from this material eliminate the common need for retightening under working conditions. The Gylon 3504 material is capable of a temperature range of -450°F to +500°F, will not burn or support bacteria growth, and is FDA Compliant.

For hygienic applications, the Gylon BIO-LOK gasket is a modified PTFE gasket designed for use in food, beverage, pharmaceutical and bio-processing applications. BIO-LOK is designed to withstand the rigors of CIP/SIP processes. With no intrusion into the process flow, FDA & USP Class VI compliance and exceptional chemical compatibility, the BIO-LOK gasket is an ideal solution for nearly all challenging bio-process environments. BIO-LOK gaskets are capable of temperatures of 41°F to 356°F and pressures to 800 PSIG. The non-elastomeric sanitary gaskets conform to key FDA regulations for materials (21CFR177-1550, 21CFR170.30, 21CFR175.300) and USP Class VI. In addition they meet the specifications of DIN 32676, ISO 2852, BS 4825, ASME-BPE, ISO 1127, and SMS.

With no additional cost to the customer, the standardization on this upgraded gasket will take effect March 1, 2010. Customers who have questions or concerns regarding this change should contact their L.J. Star sales representative or contact technical support at
