Original Press Release:

HP Server Console Switch Scalable to Manage up to 128 Servers from a Single Console

November 17, 2003 Houston

HP announces the analog HP Server Console Switch family of products, a uniquely scalable and integrated keyboard, video monitor, and mouse (KVM) system for managing multiple servers from one console. Intended for staffed datacenters, the analog HP Server Console Switches are available in 8- and 16-port versions and can be connected in a tiered fashion to increase server access from eight to as many as 128 servers - and even to 256 servers when tiering to an HP IP Console Switch. Via a single, integrated On-Screen Display (OSD) interface, a user can manage all attached computers including those running different operating systems. In addition, the OSD provides intuitive menus for system related information such as status, test and diagnostic data, and configuration menus.

Interface adapters are available for both PS/2 and USB and connect to UTP CAT5 cable to reduce cable clutter by as much as 75 percent, improving airflow, cooling, and cable management. These same interface adapters offer new keep-alive technology that eliminates server lockups when input/output devices are purposely or accidentally disconnected. The console switches also feature a dedicated tiering port to keep ports available for connecting servers.

The HP Server Console Switches are intended for staffed datacenters, but when cascaded as a bottom tier to an HP IP Console Switch, the solution expands to offer remote connectivity and manageability. The 8-port model offers single console support via the local user port, while the 16-port version offers dual console support, allowing the flexibility of controlling switch configurations from more than one location or by more than one user. The console switches can be mounted in a "zero U" or 1U profile.

Sold through Authorized Dealers, the 8- and 16-port HP Server Console Switches are available now with a U.S. Internet price of $829 and $1249 respectively. Interface adapters are sold separately. Pricing may vary by country or region.
