Avocent Introduces New DSR1021 KVM over IP Switch to Provide Remote Access for Branch Offices

DS Series continues to set standard in KVM over IP switching, provides unprecedented control for remote servers and network devices

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 22, 2004 -- Avocent Corporation (Nasdaq: AVCT), today announced DSR1021 switch, a cost-effective KVM over IP solution for accessing and controlling remote servers and serial devices in remote and branch offices. The DSR1021 switch extends the broad range of patented KVM over IP appliances in the Avocent DS Series that provides secure local and remote control of virtually any data center server or network device. The DSR1021 switch gives IT administrators the ability to troubleshoot, reboot or even power cycle servers or serial devices from any location using DSView. management software.

The DSR1021 appliance is managed by the DSView software, the industry's most secure and reliable centralized software management system. DSView software enables administrators to manage remote servers and VT100 network devices with the same interface they use to manage their data center devices. The DSR1021 switch features external modem support so that administrators can still manage remote devices if the network is down. With eight user-configurable ports for serial or KVM use, the DSR1021 switch provides a truly flexible configuration based on the customer's needs. Administrators are not limited by dedicated serial or KVM ports.

"Our DS Series continues to expand to help customers manage their networks and their budgets. The DSR1021 switch helps administrators avoid costly on-site service calls since they can manage remote offices, just as if they were there." said Gary Johnson, senior vice president of worldwide sales. "Since we introduced KVM over IP four years ago, we have continued to expand the capabilities of our DS Series. With the addition of the DSR1021 switch, we have extended our field-proven solution to branch offices too."

"VDC confirmed that Avocent is the undisputed leader in KVM switching solutions," said Chris Lanfear, Embedded Software Group Manager for Venture Development Corporation. "We surveyed current and potential end users of KVM switching solutions to find out what was important to them and how they would rank the current vendors. Avocent received the best rating for quality, breadth of product line and customer service." The Avocent DS Series KVM over IP solutions include more than 10 appliances designed for managing rack environments where space is at a premium and 24/7 centralized server and network device control is a necessity. When connected with the Avocent DSRIQ module, each appliance significantly reduces cable clutter in the back of the rack with its efficient CAT 5 cable design.

The DSR1021 switch is available in May at a MSRP of $1,750 (U.S.) Additional pricing and product details are available on www.avocent.com. Avocent will demonstrate the DSR1021 switch at May 11-13 at NetWorld+Interop, booth 535.
