Raritan Introduces Versatile "Switchless KVM" Device for Always-Available Remote Server Management

-- New Class of KVM-over-IP Solution Brings the Power of Raritan's Dominion KX to a Portable, Palm-sized Form Factor --

SOMERSET, N.J. (September 12, 2005) -- Raritan - a leading provider of solutions for managing IT infrastructure - today introduced the Dominion® KX101, a palm-sized, one-port, KVM-over-IP remote management device that provides always-available access to servers and also facilitates moving and relocating servers.

The Dominion KX101 is a new class of KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) management solution with a switchless architecture that provides non-blocked access and BIOS-level control of servers from anywhere in the world through a Web browser.

Designed to support demanding IT environments both in data centers and in branch offices, the highly-scalable Dominion KX101 solution packs into a tiny form factor the same secure access-and-control technology found in Raritan's enterprise-class Dominion KX switches. However, unlike a KVM switch -- which has a limited number of channels to access many servers in a rack -- the KX101 is always able to provide access to its dedicated server.

The KX101 works as a stand-alone solution, or as part of a full enterprise-wide access-and-control network. Large numbers of Dominion KX101 units can be integrated into a single logical network through Raritan's CommandCenter® Secure Gateway.

The Dominion KX101's unique form factor and non-blocked access make it an ideal remote management platform for:
o Environments where remote access to mission-critical servers could be "blocked" by other administrators trying to access other servers.
o Branch offices and other remote locations that have small numbers of mission-critical servers, and where the price of multi-port remote KVM switches is not justified.
o Environments where servers or other target devices are frequently moved around into different configurations, such as in test labs and demo rooms.
o Temporary installations, such as conventions, trade shows, client/customer sites and construction sites.
o Locations with PC-powered devices such as retail point-of-sale systems, interactive displays, signage, kiosks, as well as medical and military equipment.

"The Dominion KX101 is another first that Raritan has introduced to the industry," said Izzy Leibovich, product manager at Raritan. "Our sleek KX101 provides tremendous capabilities and flexibility for situations where you need always-available server access."

The Dominion KX101 works with the industry's widest range of browsers and operating systems. It also delivers a remote management experience that is indistinguishable from an "at-the-rack" session. For remote collaboration, the KX101 provides a PC Share Mode that enables up to eight remote users to simultaneously view the same server. With a 0U form factor, the KX101 can be mounted vertically or horizontally on the side of a server rack, affixed to any convenient surface or simply hung from the back of the target device by its cable. In addition, its Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) capability can eliminate the need for a separate power supply and cabling.

The Dominion KX101 is available worldwide through Raritan's extensive distribution channel. The U.S. Suggested Retail Price is $859 per unit. Raritan also is making the KX101 available in bundles of 12 units at a preferred volume price.

For situations where multiple Dominion KX101s are deployed, Raritan's CommandCenter Secure Gateway appliance may be used to aggregate all the Dominion Series devices, as well as Raritan's Paragon® KVM switches, onto a single network. CommandCenter Secure Gateway is the only solution that integrates both digital and analog KVM switches and serial-over-IP console servers into a single, logical, access-and-control network with a single sign-on to a single IP address. CommandCenter Secure Gateway provides users and administrators the ability to define criteria to be used in sorting, viewing, accessing and managing devices, so remote maintenance and repair can be performed even more efficiently.

The new KX101 has been tested by a number of customers, including a petroleum company that is using the KX101 to provide remote access to servers residing on off-shore oil rigs. "The Dominion KX101 is the most cost-effective solution for this customer," said Leibovich. "The KX101 is easy to install and immediately enables remote access to the target server. There is no other one-port solution in the market that provides enterprise-class remote management features and tools."
