Kontron Offers New Six-Core Intel® Xeon® Processors on ATCA® Node Blade and EATX Server Board for Highly Threaded LTE, IMS, IPTV, and Data Center Applications
Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series becomes one of two CPU options for the Kontron AT8050 and KTC5520
Eching, Germany / Poway, CA, - Kontron today announced that both its existing Kontron AdvancedTCA® node blade AT8050 and its Kontron server board KTC5520 are available with the newly released Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series. This provides TEM and network equipment providers a second feature-rich processor option for the two products that were originally designed with the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series.
Clients with much-needed performance upgrade requirements can now better design and deploy the right high performance systems exactly where they are needed across today's data-intensive 3G/4G and broadband networks.
The key feature differences with the Intel Xeon processor 5600 series compared to the 5500 series are: six cores instead of four; 12 threads versus 8; 32 nm technology compared to 45 nm; increased performance within the same thermal power envelope; new low power platform consumption with LVDDR3L; and maintains all the performance functionalities of the 5500 series plus a new hardware-based security technology called Advanced Encryption Standard - New Instructions (AES-NI).

Kontron AT8050 with Intel® Xeon® processor L5638
The Kontron ATCA® node blade AT8050 features a single socket for either one quad-core Intel® Xeon® processor L5518 or the six-core Intel® Xeon® processor L5638. Both options are compatible with the existing Intel® 5520 chipset, which supports up to 36 lanes of PCI Express 2.0 and directly assignable I/O for virtualization (VT-d), significantly accelerating I/O traffic and lowering processor use in both native and virtualized environments. The Kontron AT8050 achieves the best price versus performance for ATCA-based systems used in media server (IMS), 3G, and LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC) networks.
Kontron Server Board KTC5520 with Intel® Xeon® processor E5645
Intended for high end, data center and cloud computing applications, the EATX SSI EEB-compliant server board Kontron KTC5520 is a dual-socket design that also supports both Intel® Xeon® processor series. Originally designed with the quad-core Intel® Xeon® 5500 series, the Kontron KTC5520 is available with two six-core Intel® Xeon® processors (L5638) at 80W per processor. Both versions provide extreme performance, high I/O bandwidth and exceptional reliability - backed by a 7-year life-cycle support program. It can also be fully managed remotely using an Integrated Management Processor (IMP) that integrates VGA/2D, BMC, and KVM/VM over IP to support real-time access with full control by keyboard, video monitor and mouse (KVM) and virtual media (VM) by a single local computer from anywhere, at any time.
About Intel® Advanced Encryption Standard - New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI)
This new Intel® AES security function enables fast and secure data encryption and decryption in AES-based communications cryptographic workloads, and offers a significant increase in performance compared to the current pure-software implementations.
Availability
Both the Kontron AT8050 and Kontron KTC5520 will have early samples available with the new Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series in Q2, 2010.
