Kontron Launches IP Network Server with Latest Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 Series
2U rack mount server optimized for network applications with intense I/O and compute performance requirements
San Jose/CA, Eching/Germany, March 30, 2009 - At the ESC Silicon Valley conference in San Jose, California, (Booth 1028), Kontron is unveiling the Kontron IP Network Server NSN2U, further extending Kontron's commitment to IP networking customers by providing the latest in state-of-the-art rack mount servers.
The new Kontron NSN2U is a 2U rack mount server for IP network applications, supporting the latest Intel® micro architecture within the Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 Series. The innovative chassis design combines extensive network port density, huge processor performance, and additional advanced features in a densely and compact 2U package, ideally suited for network data applications with intense I/O and compute performance requirements.
Utilizing the capabilities of the Intel® Xeon® 5500 Platform, the Kontron IP Network Server NSN2U features the new Intel® 5500 Xeon® processor series with an Integrated Memory Controller, Intel® QuickPath Technology, Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, Next-Generation Intel® Virtualization Technology, and Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology. With support of the new Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 Series the Kontron NSN2U rack mount server for IP network applications combines greater performance and power efficiency to provide improved performance-per-watt over previous-generation rack mount servers.
Furthermore Kontron's latest IP Network Server introduces new benefits by providing support for the latest technologies and industry standards including PCI-E Gen2, Power Management Bus (PMBus), DDR3 memory, enhanced remote management capabilities via IPMI and directed I/O virtualization technology. It also includes hot-swap, redundant fans for greater up-time and improved serviceability. Increased memory and storage capacity are now possible with 12 slots for DDR3 RDIMM/UDIMM memory (96GB maximum) and support of up to 8 hot-swap 2.5" SAS/SATA hard disk drives, which can enable greater HW RAID options and flexibility for fine tuning to optimized safety and transfer rates. Further storage options are also enabled through support of solid state drives with either SATA or USB interface.
The Kontron IP Network Server NSN2U continues the benefits characteristic of the already existing IP Network Server product family - including 3-5 year extended lifecycle, dual-redundant AC or DC power, and high I/O density - all in a ruggedized, shallow-depth chassis.
The Kontron IP Network Server NSN2U will become available in production by July 2009.
