Sigma-Aldrich Launches GenomePlex® Tissue Whole Genome Amplification Kit

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 23 - Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL), a leading $1.7 billion Life Science and High Technology company, is pleased to launch the GenomePlex Tissue Whole Genome Amplification (WGA) Kit. This kit is the latest addition to the GenomePlex product line and includes all of the reagents needed for extraction and whole genome amplification from as little as 0.1 mg of fresh, frozen or formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue.

"We are very excited about the capabilities of the GenomePlex Tissue WGA kit to provide customers with a best-in-class product for DNA amplification of damaged and degraded material such as FFPE tissues," said Keith Jolliff, Director of Strategic Marketing at Sigma-Aldrich. "These samples hold a wealth of information for the study of many diseases such as cancer."

The new GenomePlex Tissue WGA kit incorporates an optimized tissue lysis and extraction procedure, which eliminates the need for deparaffinization or DNA purification. The WGA product can be used in numerous downstream applications, including QPCR, microsatellite analysis, SNP analysis, Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH), microarrays, and other genotyping analysis. Amplification results in microgram quantities of DNA.

The GenomePlex Tissue Whole Genome Amplification Kit is derived from the proprietary amplification method that is based upon random fragmentation of the genome and conversion of the resulting small fragments to PCR-amplifiable OmniPlex library molecules flanked by universal priming sites. The OmniPlex® library is then PCR amplified using universal oligonucleotide primers and a limited number of cycles.
