Rockwell Automation Adds Rugged Peripherals to its Allen-Bradley Industrial Computer Family

New industrially hardened peripherals deliver high performance under demanding environmental conditions

MILWAUKEE, May 16, 2002 - To meet end-user requirements for lower life cycle costs and long-term reliability in harsh environments, Rockwell Automation has introduced three new industrial keyboards and two new pointing devices to its Allen-Bradley RAC6189 industrial peripherals series. Designed to provide long-term operation and higher value than similar office-grade devices, the peripherals are impervious to liquids, gases, dust and other contaminants and are designed to withstand environmental hazards such as high temperatures, shock and vibration.

With NEMA ratings of up to 4/4X/12, the keyboards and pointing devices are suitable for indoor and outdoor use and are washdown-resistant. Easy to integrate into any industrial computer system, the devices are compatible with any existing Allen-Bradley RAC6000 Series Industrial Computer. The peripherals are ideal for use in chemical, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, where harsh environmental conditions can easily destroy traditional desktop computers.

Available with stainless steel or plastic cases, the industrial keyboards feature EMI/RFI shielding and a one-piece silicone rubber surface that prevents contaminants from entering the device. Keyboard models are available for mounting in a panel, or on a desktop or rack drawer. For additional convenience and added reliability, all keyboards feature integral two- or three-button pointing devices.

The new pointing devices are constructed of stainless steel and heavy industrial rubber, and are sealed for addition environmental protection. With no moving parts to break or wear out, the devices are designed to deliver reliable, long-term operation with minimal repair. Additionally, the devices are designed to accommodate use with gloved hands. These pointing devices can be connected to either a Windows® compatible serial interface (RS-232C) or PS/2 pointing device port on an industrial computer.

The Allen-Bradley RAC6000 industrial computers and monitors are available in a wide range of configurations to meet application requirements and continue to evolve to meet the demanding industrial control requirements of the shop floor. Unlike standard office PCs, the RAC6000 family is built for speed, reliability, flexibility, ease of upgrade and rugged operation in hazardous environments.
