Center-Lit Key Switches from ITT Industries, Cannon Deliver In Excess of a Million Switching Cycles

NEWTON, MA (June 9, 2003) - Cannon's K6/K12 Series of key switches now provides more models and options as well as smaller sizes. These switches offer three distinct advantages: a high degree of vibration resistance, a high life expectancy, and guaranteed switching.

The K6/K12 have distinctive tactile feedback and can be designed to meet a wide variety of customer requirements. The contacts' unique geometry ensures reliable switching while cleaning the contacts during each actuation. Switching voltage ranges from 2V DC to 30V DC; switching currents from 10uA to 100mA DC. Available with center-positioned, 3mm T1 and argus T1-LEDs, standard colors are yellow, green, red and orange. The 3mm LEDs are ideal for illuminating a small surface on the top of the switch. The argus LEDs in combination with a reflector deliver homogenous illumination. The K6/K12 can be used in variety of applications, including automotive, agricultural equipment, avionics, computers and peripherals, measurement and medical devices.

K12 Series
New versions include the K12G with two make contacts (NO, SPDT); K12GOL and K12PL with one LED and several possible colors; K12DL with one LED and a balcony for a second LED; and the K12C, which is IP67 sealed by a rubber cap. Standard travel lengths available are 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0mm with operating forces of 2,5; 3,5; and 5N. However, the special contact system allows for specified variation in the button travel, the tactile snap point and operating force to a particular custom application. K12 switches are able to deliver in excess of 1 million cycles. K12 prices range from $0.50 - 2.00 depending on the model.

K6 Series
K6 switches are SPST, NO momentary action devices offering a choice of travel lengths from 1 to 1.5mm with standard operating force of 2, 3 and 5N. Switches are available in four versions, with and without LED. New versions include an SMT-switch suitable for IR-reflow soldering. The switches offer a significant size reduction over earlier versions, requiring a PCB space of only 10.9 by 7.4mm with heights of 8.4mm. The K6 switches deliver high reliability switching over a life span exceeding 200,000 cycles. K6 prices range from $0.35 - 1.50.
