Keaflex Engineering Wins Liquid Silicone Face Seal for Scott Health & Safety

When their existing supplier of liquid silicone face mask seals pulled out, Scott Health & Safety had to find a new supplier. After overcoming stiff competition from overseas, elastomer engineering specialist James Walker Keaflex was appointed to manufacture the coloured seal based on the existing product.
"The tight deadline put our process engineering skills to the test," said James Walker Keaflex business development manager Pete Smith. "We needed to convert some existing plastic machines over to liquid silicone technology, and we also installed a new higher capacity press for thermoplastic rubber."
New injection moulding equipment was designed by James Walker Keaflex and manufactured in its in-house toolroom. The whole project involved producing seven new products in all, made from coloured liquid silicone and thermoplastic rubber.
"Keaflex did an excellent job by stepping into the breach and delivering a high quality product to meet our deadlines," said David Price, purchasing manager at Scott Health & Safety.
The full face mask is part of Scott's modular respiratory protection range. The silicone seal provides a comfortable fit for the wearer and minimises the risk of skin irritation.
