KBA Web Offset Innovations a Further Gem at Drupa

High-tech commercial and newspaper web presses

In the first eleven issues of KBA Daily the focus was largely on Rapida sheetfed offset technology and sales to printers from all over the world, and the new RotaJET 76 digital web press. But KBA also offers plenty to interest commercial and newspaper printers in the shape of high-tech web presses engineered to address current market demands.

At the back of the stand building, demonstrations are offered for the first time on compact printing units of KBA's new, modular and highly automated Commander CL newspaper press with automatic and semi-automatic plate changing. Directly beside it KBA staff run automatic plate changes in less than 60 seconds on a 16-page C16 commercial printing unit. Both presses are engineered for fast job changes and low waste levels when printing the smaller circulations that are common today. Unique features such as automatic roller locks reduce maintenance input. Print specialists are on hand to explain the cutting-edge ErgoTronic console technology at the two units and also the quarterfold device for the C16, which operates at a maximum press speed of 65,000iph.

There may be less of a crush at the web presses, but the visitors who are there are high-calibre, partly because KBA has a strong position in this sector, too, and is the technological bellwether. Some commercial and newspaper web presses have already been sold at Drupa and a lot of new projects initiated.
