K-TEK Provides Redundancy, Independent Technologies, and SIL2 Certified Device for a Complete Safety Level Package

Prairieville, LA (July 19, 2010) - K-TEK, a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art instrumentation for level measurement, today announced a unique blend of technologies that reduce risk and increase the safety ratings of level measurement systems. The company now provides a complete safety level package that combines redundant systems, independent technologies, and a SIL2 certified device. The end result is safer and more reliable products and processes for chemical plants, oil and gas refineries, and power plants.

"Increasing safety and reducing risk are top priorities for most plants,"
stated Kevin Hambrice, Director of Marketing & Customer Service at K-TEK.
"Large processing plants carry a certain degree of inherent risk. The goal is to reduce that risk to an acceptable level. Independent and redundant systems, combined with SIL2 certification, eliminate single mode failure and increase the safety integrity rating of the entire level system."

K-TEK's enhanced safety level measurement offerings include the AT200 high accuracy transmitters, the only magnetostrictive level transmitters in the industry that are certified for operation in SIL2 environments. They help reduce risk at the process measurement level when implementing Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in process plant environments. K-TEK's point level switches, such as the TX Thermal Dispersion and Resonator Vibrating Forks, offer an independent and redundant form of level detection. All of these can easily be integrated with the company's KM26 Magnetic Level Gauge with simple 3Z4" extruded outlets. The MagWave(TM) Dual Chamber Level Measurement System is designed around a unique, dual chamber enclosure that includes a magnetic level gauge for level indication based on the specific gravity of the process, and a guided wave radar transmitter for measurements based on dielectric constant.

About K-TEK
K-TEK, a member of the ABB Group, is a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art liquid and solids level instrumentation with six global manufacturing centers around the world. Founded in 1975, the company pioneered the KM26 magnetic level gauge with extruded outlets and precision engineered floats and continues to set the pace in the industry with such innovations as AccuTrak(TM), the first SIL2 certified (IEC 61508) magnetostrictive level transmitter; BETA, the first SIL2 certified pressure switch; SureShot(TM), the first low cost, all digital design laser level and distance transmitter with HART protocol; Resonator(TM), the first vibrating fork switch that features a one-step, external calibration process, eliminating hassles with equipment covers; and MT5000, one of the industry's first guided wave radar level transmitter with full waveform digital readout and display. The company also manufactures ultrasonic transmitters and a full line of point level switches, plumb bob devices, and field controllers.

K-TEK's products are used in over 350,000 installations worldwide in such applications as chemical processing, oil and gas production, power generation, pulp and paper processing, mining and construction, food and beverage manufacturing, and plastics manufacturing.
