Juniper Systems Handhelds Take on the Power of RFID

Juniper Systems is excited to announce that it will now be offering RFID options for its existing rugged handheld computers, thanks to its recent business partnership with IDBLUE®.

Logan, Utah, USA – Juniper Systems is excited to announce that it will now be offering RFID options for its existing rugged handheld computers, thanks to its recent business partnership with IDBLUE®. This partnership will allow Juniper Systems to provide the IDBLUE RFID reader as part of a bundled package, or as a separate product which can be used with any Bluetooth®-equipped Juniper Systems rugged handheld computer.

"We are very excited to now offer RFID options for our handhelds," said Josh Egan, Product Manager at Juniper Systems. "We've had many customers request RFID capabilities as a cost-effective means to track, maintain, and manage their assets, so we are moving in this direction to respond to their needs. The IDBLUE reader is the perfect add-on for those customers who want RFID capabilities, but don’t want to make the investment in all new hardware."

Mark Murphy, VP of Marketing at IDBLUE said, "We are thrilled at the new opportunities that will arise from this partnership. Our RFID Bluetooth® readers will perfectly complement the product line-up at Juniper Systems. The result is field data collection solutions that will ultimately provide more data insight and drive greater value for both new and existing clients, especially those operating in more rugged and hazardous environments."

Because RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology works well in extreme and rugged environments, it has become a preferred data capture tool over barcode scanning for many applications. Over the past few years, RFID technology has matured greatly and has become increasingly cost-effective, resulting in many markets viewing it as a viable solution for their data collection.

Unlike barcode scanning technology, RFID technology utilizes electromagnetic radio waves to transmit information. RFID tags are specially designed to operate in rugged environments and to store specific data. The IDBLUE reader is intended for short-range applications, enabling users to narrow down on a specific asset's data, making the IDBLUE/Juniper Systems pack particularly appealing for asset management and tracking.

The IDBLUE reader is an economical solution for customers who want flexible RFID capabilities. The pen-shaped RFID reader doubles as a capacitive stylus and features a pocket-sized, ergonomic design. It is available in both HF (high frequency) and UHF (ultra-high frequency) and has a pending Class I, Division 2 certification for hazardous locations. When used with Juniper Systems rugged handhelds, together they form an impressive duo for data collection in rugged environments. Juniper Systems and IDBLUE will be showcasing their products at the RFID Journal LIVE trade show held April 30 – May 2, 2013 in Orlando, FL.

Juniper Systems is now accepting orders for the IDBLUE reader. For additional information, customers may contact their Juniper Systems sales representative or email Juniper Systems at sales@junipersys.com.
