JTAG Technologies - Taking Command with an Array of New Products at ESC San Jose, March 27th to 29th, 2012

Silicon Valley, Booth 1842

Eindhoven, The Netherlands - JTAG Technologies, market leader in boundary-scan solutions will showcase these latest hard- and software solutions at ESC:

Our brand new solution CoreCommander, taking command of MicroCores for PCB Test & Debug, supporting ARM, Cortex, X-Scale, PowerPC, TriCore etc.

Those new series of debug tools for DSP and microprocessor systems utilise a variety of RISC and DSP cores. By using JTAGLive CoreCommander, engineers can activate the OCD (On-Chip Debug) modes of a range of popular cores to affect 'kernel-centric' testing.

While many devices are now equipped with JTAG (IEEE Std. 1149.1) boundary-scan registers (BSRs), which are used extensively to provide test access into digital and mixed-signal designs, a significant number of microprocessors and DSPs can be found with deficient or even non-existent boundary-scan test registers. For the electronics test engineer this can, at best, be 'frustrating' as they look to employ alternative methods for testing the 'processor and/or associated cluster/peripheral components.

CoreCommander routines are ideal for diagnosing faults on 'dead-kernel' boards in either design debug or repair, since no on-board code is required to set memory reads and writes. Boundary-scan deficient parts can also be better utilised during production test, as CoreCommander-driven functions increase fault coverage. Since CoreCommander is Python-based it complements perfectly the JTAGLive Script product, allowing access to mixed-signal parts such as ADCs and DACs and also synchronised testing to full boundary-scan devices.

Autobuzz - Unique Tool from the JTAGLive Family

AutoBuzz is a totally unique new tool that effectively learns a connectivity signature of all boundary-scan parts within a design from only the BSDL models of those parts. By expanding on the seek and discover mode of BuzzPlus, AutoBuzz automatically gathers the circuit data of a known good board and then performs a full connectivity compare against the faulty circuit.

AutoBuzz supports just two simple operating modes: Learn and Compare. With AutoBuzz in Learn mode a 'known good' sample PCB is initially scanned to establish a reference connectivity map. Suspected faulty boards can then be scanned by AutoBuzz in Compare mode, and a comparison is automatically made of their connectivity maps. Differences between the two maps are highlighted to indicate possible faults such as interconnect short-circuits, open-circuits or 'stuck-at' faults.

Since the user requires no boundary-scan technical knowledge and with only a basic scan chain input needed, AutoBuzz is the perfect tool for repair and rework technicians, especially when design data is missing or incomplete.

The new quantum step in training and demonstration equipment - JT2156 Training Board

In co-operation with the Benelux regional representative of Altium - Transfer BV - and hardware development consultancy - DsignWorx BV - the new JT 2156 training board has been devised to demonstrate all the latest features and test techniques available to users of JTAG Technologies' ProVision & JTAGLive application development systems. For Altium users the design serves as an example of how to adapt the feature-rich Nano board into a realistic custom design. Key features of the JT 2156 are:

o ARM 7TDMI Core NXP processor

o Altera Cyclone 3 FPGA

o DDR2 memory block

o Serial I2C memory

o Analog to Digital Converter

o Accelerometer

o Touch screen controller

The new training board has been built to allow to show exactly what JTAG/boundary-scan is capable of in the second decade of the 21st century. Traditional IEEE Std. 1149.1 boundary-scan testing is well known, but many leading edge technicians need to both learn about and see other JTAG applications.
