Johnson Matthey Supplying Oxidation Catalyst to Vogt Power for New Idaho Power Gas Turbine Project
Malvern, PA, May 24, 2010 - Johnson Matthey's Stationary Emissions Control (SEC) group announced that it will supply a CO oxidation catalyst system to Vogt Power International Inc. (VPI) for a gas turbine at the Langley Gulch Power Plant being built on a remote site in Payette County, Idaho, by the Idaho Power Company. Johnson Matthey is also meeting Vogt's special requirements for the Langley Gulch catalyst system configuration and unique structural design.
The clean, highly efficient Langley Gulch Plant will generate 300 MW of electricity. The combined cycle turbine will use natural gas and steam to produce power. In addition, the plant will help integrate intermittent alternative resources such as wind and solar energy in Idaho Power's service area.
Vogt Power, a subsidiary of Babcock Power Inc., will design, engineer, manufacture and deliver the duct-fired, three-pressure-level, natural circulation heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) that will be installed behind a modified GE Frame 7FA gas turbine. The HRSG will be equipped with a multi-pollutant control system including Johnson Matthey 's CO oxidation catalyst system to reduce carbon monoxide (CO).
Construction on the plant to be built south of Interstate 84 at exit 9 is expected to begin in August 2010 and is scheduled for completion December 2012.
Langley Gulch is expected to improve electric service reliability and help deliver power from intermittent renewable resources to all Idaho Power customers.
