Johnson Matthey Introduces Newly Designed ECONOx(TM) Catalytic Converters, Converter-Silencers

Cost effective, easy-to-maintain, innovative products meet ever tougher standards for emissions and noise control

Malvern, PA, September 29, 2010-Johnson Matthey, the global leader in stationary emissions control technology, is offering newly designed, innovative and cost effective EcoNOx(TM) 3-way and 2-way catalytic converters and converter-silencers to reduce exhaust emissions and/or noise from any size stationary gas engine.

For decades, customers have depended on the converter design pioneered by Johnson Matthey. This latest, fourth-generation version serves multiple new and retrofit applications-gas compression, power generation, irrigation, pumping, standby equipment and pump jacks.

Johnson Matthey's EcoNOx converters incorporate advanced catalyst technology, proprietary composition and new converter design to ensure maximum catalyst performance, simple maintenance, the ability to easily add more catalyst and more economical operation.

Johnson Matthey Stationary Emissions Control (SEC) Business Manager, Jeff Sherman said," EcoNOx converters can convert up to 99 percent of NOx, CO, HC, VOC and HAP (hazardous air pollutant) emissions from engines fueled with natural gas, diesel, LPG, dual or bio-fuels, as well as reduce noise."

"Meeting the need to convert HAPs is made especially easy with the new EcoNOx converters. Our EcoNOx catalysts are specially formulated to also convert formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, methanol, benzene and other HAPs."

Johnson Matthey offers four different single or multi-element ECONOx converters:

EcoNOx(TM) Catalytic Converter (for 250-2,000 HP IC engines)
EcoNOx(TM) Mini Catalytic Converter (for 50-500 HP IC engines)
EcoNOx(TM) Q Converter-Silencer
EcoNOx(TM) Mini Q Converter-Silencer

At the heart of the EcoNOx converter is the catalyst element, which is manufactured using durable and highly dispersed Platinum Group Metals (PGM). The metal monoliths that support the PGM are brazed, thin-walled stainless steel honeycomb supports, which are nearly impervious to damage from mechanical or thermal shock and metallurgic erosion.

Added Sherman, "The unique design and construction of the catalyst element also reduces backpressure. That means fuel savings and longer catalyst life."
