Johnson Controls' New Seat Concept Optimises Seating Comfort

BURSCHEID, Germany and DETROIT, Michigan, January 9 -- More Room for Second-Row Passengers
Johnson Controls is presenting a new front-seat concept at the 2007 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Specialising in interiors, the company is one of the world's leading suppliers of automotive interior systems, electronics and batteries and has developed the Slim Seat. This seat not only features a modern design, it also offers additional legroom for second-row passengers thanks to its particularly thin seatback, which ensures the Slim Seat is just as safe and comÂfortable as conventional seats.
"Today's consumers are ready for innovation in the design, functionality and aesthetic appeal of vehicle seats, while autoÂmakers have a strong interest in creating more spacious interiors," said Jeff Williams, Group Vice President and General Manager, North America, for Johnson Controls. The Slim Seat provides the perfect solution for both. In order to ensure cost-effectiveness, the company uses tried-and-tested materials to produce the seats.
Slim yet safe and comfortable
For example, its seatback is made of conventional steel, which not only looks, but also is robust. Furthermore, the Slim Seat features a thin, centerline cross-section, special technology that ensures outstanding occupant comfort, even with narrow package space, and modern cushions. Its appearance appeals to consumers and offers the automaker the opportunity to differentiate itself from its competitors. The Slim Seat is expected to be available for all segments from model year 2010.
For persons interested the Slim Seat is on display as early as 7-21 January 2007 at Johnson Controls' booth in Hall D2-15 of the Cobo Center. Presentation in Europe will follow shortly afterwards: In September 2007 it will make its debut in Europe at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
