Starrett Introduces a New Line of Jig Saw Blades That Fit both Universal and Bosch Shank Saws

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, IMTS '04, Booth No. D-4327 (September 8, 2004) Today, The L.S. Starrett Company announced Unified Shank(TM), a new line of jig saw blades that incorporate two significant innovations. Unified Shank(TM) has an exclusive new shank design that is compatible with both universal shank and Bosch shank jig saws, eliminating the need to have different blades for different jig saws. Unified Shank Blades also utilize Starrett's exclusive Bi-Metal Unique(TM) Saw Technology, which provides faster cutting, longer life, and greater resistance to breakage.

With their ability to fit virtually all jig saws on the market, Unified Shank Blades are especially useful to contractors and other commercial users who have numerous jig saws from various manufacturers. With Unified Shank, they eliminate the cost and confusion of maintaining stock of two different types of jig saw blades.

The Unified Shank line has a total of 16 blades - six for cutting wood, four for cutting metal, and six multi-purpose. These 16 blades are all that is needed for virtually any jig saw cutting application.

In addition, Unified Shank utilizes Starrett's proprietary new saw technology, Bi-Metal Unique(TM). This saw technology utilizes a new method of bonding the high-speed steel to the backing material, resulting in 170% more weld contact area. The result is significantly reduced fracture and breakage at the HSS/backing material interface.

Soon after initial use, the teeth develop a groove in the very thin center of the backing material. As a result, the cutting stroke produces dual chips that are more easily removed from the cut.

With these two innovations, Unified Shank Jig Saw blades represent a significant advance in jig saw blade technology.

In addition to being the world's preeminent manufacturer of precision measuring tools and equipment, Starrett is also a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of band saw blades, hacksaw blades, hole saws, jig/reciprocating blades and specialty saw products. Blades are manufactured in Mt. Airy, NC, USA; Jedburgh, Scotland; and Itu, Brazil. For more information on Unified Shank(TM), contact the L. S.
