Single Clamp Micronizer® Jet Mill
HANOVER, MA - A new Single Clamp Micronizer® jet mill from Sturtevant Inc. combines simple operation with narrow particle-size distribution in the production of fine powders for the pharmaceutical industry. A single clamp encircles the mill's 4-inch chamber, sealing it during operation and permitting easy disassembly, even in a glove-box. Requiring no tools, this low-maintenance design is also sanitary; the unit's few parts are easily cleaned or autoclaved to prevent product contamination.
Turning out spherical particles with diameters as small as a few microns for testing or preparing batches of formulations, the Micronizer can mill up to 40 pounds of material per hour. It accepts raw materials of various particle sizes through a feed funnel (or optional enclosed feed system) and a replaceable venturi. Inside the milling chamber, precisely aligned jet nozzles use either compressed air or inert gases to create a high-velocity vortex that causes the particles to collide and disintegrate without heat buildup. While centrifugal force retains larger particles at the perimeter of the chamber, the fines move toward the center, where they are discharged for collection.
