JDSU Launches Enhanced Digital Program Insertion Test Capabilities for Accurate Localized Digital Ad Placement and Increased Ad Revenues

MILPITAS, Calif., April 16 - JDSU today announced the introduction of additional digital program insertion (DPI) validation features to the company's DTS, the industry-leading digital video test platform that offers six different combinations of MPEG-2 (DVB and ATSC) transport stream generation, capture, stream creation, and analysis. The new DPI capabilities, as well as the DTS line that supports the reliable deployment of IP and digital video services, will be on display at NAB 2007, Las Vegas, Booth N926.

DPI has become increasingly important as programmers and multiple system operators (MSOs) focus on management of ad insertion time and placement during the carry-over from analog video to digital video. JDSU's DTS DPI capabilities, known for performing comprehensive analysis of all SCTE-35 (the standard that supports the splicing of MPEG-2 streams for the purpose of placing ads) metadata and messaging in the transport stream, has allowed users to validate DPI, digital ad splicing systems and equipment.

JDSU's DTS now enables operators to precisely capture stream data and conduct trigger stream report generation, giving users the exact detail to assure that their digital ads have run successfully and on schedule. These validation features further help customers deploy localized advertising accurately and capture increased ad revenues.

JDSU's key highlights supporting digital video, IPTV for NAB 2007

At NAB 2007 JDSU will showcase SimulTrack, a DTS feature that performs simultaneous analysis and monitoring of up to 256 MPEG transport streams contained within a gigabit Ethernet pipe to find network and service problems affecting quality. SimulTrack offers unprecedented simultaneous view into critical IP and MPEG performance metrics for all MPEG flows in a gigabit Ethernet stream. It also rapidly identifies impairments to either IP or MPEG layers for video over IP traffic and instantly performs accurate cross-layer analysis on video over IP. Other important capabilities for IPTV/digital video quality of service (QoS) include:

o Ability to run multiple real-time MPEG analysis sessions on various interfaces

o Delivers unmatched "comparison capabilities" - with one box, a user can test/monitor the same program or transport stream at multiple points in the broadcast chain to quickly find where changes or problems were introduced

o Conducts interoperability testing to identify the source of problems; compares two different programs (or streams) at the same point in the broadcast chain; and, performs comparative analysis between a service that has problems and one that does not (pinpointing the difference can identify errors).

JDSU also will be exhibiting its SimulSource, a powerful DTS application which generates hundreds of IP video test streams typically involved in a network carrying IP video services. SimulSource allows network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) to verify and stress test equipment using many types of encapsulation and signal later analysis (MPEG, upper and lower protocol) for a full view of the equipment's performance.

About the DTS-330 Digital MPEG Test Platform and DTS-200 MPEG-2 Field Instrument

The DTS-330 is a lab grade digital video test platform offering six different combinations of MPEG-2 (DVB and ATSC) transport stream generation, capture, stream creation, and analysis. The DTS-200 is a remote field test instrument designed to let operators gain remote visibility into their MPEG-2 streams and perform various test applications.
