JDSU Adds Triple-Play Multiple Stream Testing Capability to FST-2802 Gigabit Ethernet Field Tester

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 22 /FirstCall/ -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; TSX: JDU) today announced new features for its FST-2802 Ethernet, IP and Fiber Channel tester that enable field technicians to more easily test managed services and FTTx deployments. This new release enables technicians to emulate voice, video and data traffic streams and independently monitor and measure each stream for quality of service (QoS) characteristics. In addition, the new software can be used to test point-to-multipoint links as well as perform basic monitoring tests on VLAN or IP networks. The product will be on display at CeBIT 2006 in Hannover, Germany,

Network operators are increasing their investments in IP/MPLS and metro Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet technologies to enable triple-play (voice, data, and video) services that will drive new revenue streams. The FST-2802, targeted at field service technicians, has rapidly become a global market leader for GigE installation and maintenance and is approved by every major U.S. telecommunications carrier. The FST-2802 also incorporates ease-of-use for field technicians who have minimal data testing experience.

"Today, carriers are introducing different classes of service for triple- play carried over their networks, and their customers are becoming more sophisticated about their QoS demands," said Jerry Gentile, general manager of JDSU's telecommunication field services (TFS) Test and Measurement group. "JDSU anticipated this demand and now offers specific, proactive QoS test features in our FST-2802 that help effectively manage and troubleshoot the quality of triple-play services over IP networks."

By combining Ethernet, IP and fiber channel testing, the JDSU FST-2802 is the only test tool that features these broad testing capabilities in one platform.

About the JDSU FST-2802
The JDSU FST-2802 is the only handheld field solution on the market that enables service providers to provision, install and maintain cost-effective testing of various Ethernet and Fiber Channel services, all from one test platform. The robust testing capability of the FST-2802 includes end-to-end connectivity, throughput, and QoS parameters, such as round-trip delay measurements and lost frames. Its easy-to-use graphical interface empowers technicians with limited experience in testing Ethernet or Fiber Channel services to verify performance parameters and ensure conformance to service level agreements. In addition, the graphical remote control feature allows for remote testing using various connectivity options, such as analog modem and/or Ethernet access.

The FST-2802 operates on the TestPad platform, which was launched in January 1999 as the industry's first handheld, battery operated, integrated test set, and is widely used by service providers and equipment manufacturers for provisioning and maintaining voice and data networks. More than 20,000 TestPads are currently deployed around the world.
