ITW Muller Wins Prestigious Greener Package(TM) Environmental Impact Award

TW Muller, a leading manufacturer of both innovative stretch wrap equipment and high quality stretch wrap film, has won this year's Environmental Impact Award from Greener Package(TM). ITW Muller's OctoMAX(TM) monitoring system, used on the Octopus 303 rotary ring stretch-wrapping machine, won the award in the Packaging Machinery Category for its consistent optimized use of stretch wrap. The Greener Package Award honors top innovations in five categories relating to sustainable packaging. Each submission was required to include verifiable data for a minimum of one environmental impact such as greenhouse gas reduction, life-cycle impacts and more.

"ITW Muller has been focused on bringing sustainability [based] solutions to our customers for many years," says Dan Schmidt, Business Development Manager at ITW Muller. "Our company has always centered on helping our customers minimize film usage, eliminate load damage, and improve productivity. We are honored to receive the Greener Package Award and to be recognized for our efforts."

The OctoMAX system is available as an enhancement to the ITW Muller Octopus line of stretch wrap equipment or as a retrofit to most existing Octopus machines. OctoMAX utilizes proprietary hardware and software to monitor and measure equipment and film effectiveness. The system not only enables customers to maximize the performance of their machine by making sure the optimal settings, pre-stretch gears, number of wraps and amount of film are set at all times, it can also maximize savings by monitoring the performance of the film. Furthermore, it provides real-time, simple and actionable information. If something goes wrong with either the machine or film, the system will immediately notify the user via e-mail. The information is also available on the enhanced operator interface or HMI display. Users can visit a personal online portal to view historical data and download reports.

"The recent innovation of the OctoMAX system has helped Muller take another giant step forward in our ability to bring value to our customers," adds Schmidt. "As the manufacturer of both high quality stretch wrap film and innovative equipment, we have the ability to help our customers reduce waste and achieve their sustainability goals."

ITW Muller's OctoMAX system will be on display in the 'The Showcase of Packaging Innovations®' pavilion at PACK EXPO Las Vegas, NV, September 26-28, 2011.
