ITW Highland Deep Draw Parts Cleaning Conforms to Critical, Medical-Grade, & Fuel Injection Standards

Waterbury, CT - ITW Highland Manufacturing has employed in-house ultrasonic cleaning and testing capabilities to meet critical cleanliness requirements of their customers. These inline and cellular ultrasonic cleaning capabilities are capable of meeting of the most demanding specifications, including ISO/FDI 16232-10:2006 B/14; C/12; D/10; E/7; & F0. Such cleanliness is required for deep drawn parts that the company manufactures for medical applications and high tolerance direct fuel injection systems.

Gravimetric, optical and qualitative analysis of particle contamination is performed after cleaning parts including fuel system high pressure pumps and medical components. The gravimetric analysis employs filters, a cleaning agent and precision analysis scales to at least 0.1 mg. Filters are weighed before & after filtration and compared to control filters to determine gravimetric particle mass. The cleaning process is so exacting that particle mass can be held at, or below, 0.1 mg/part.

Quantitative particle analysis is done with an EDX microprobe optical microscope to determine particle sizes down to 5 µm. As example, for a high pressure fuel injector pump, the entire contamination may only contain <20% quantities of silicon oxide or abrasive materials, with particle dimensions of <200µm. The mass of contaminant for an individual pump cannot exceed 0.25mg.

ITW Highland routinely works with critical cleanliness standards in a variety of industries, from medical to automotive, aerospace, and wherever exceptional cleaning specifications apply. ITW Highland is part of ITW Drawn Metals, which consists of six, specialized deep drawn and progressive metal stamping business units worldwide. Illinois Tool Works, the parent corporation, operates more than 875 businesses in 54 countries, with greater than 65,000 people.
