ISP Introduces Broad Spectrum Industrial Microbicides for Aqueous Systems

Nuosept® BMc 422 and Nuosept® W Concentrate Offer Broad Spectrum Antimicrobial Activity with 'Greener' Preservative Technology

Wayne, New Jersey - ISP Performance Chemicals today announced a new series of 'greener' biocides offered under the Nuosept® trade name that function as broad spectrum protection products for water-based industrial formulations, such as coatings and adhesives. Nuosept BMc 422, offered as a greener biocide than previous generations of Nuosept products, features a synergistic combination of isothizolones for the prevention of Gram (-) and Gram (+) bacteria as well as fungi.

A second product called Nuosept W Concentrate is classified as a low environmental impact biocide formulated with CMIT/MIT and Bronopol for broad spectrum protection at low use levels. Both biocides prevent microbial spoilage without contributing to the VOC or formaldehyde of the products preserved.

According to Gregory Hertenberger, Business Development Manager for Industrial Biocides, more and more, formulators of water-based industrial products want to preserve their formulations with one biocide system that is both efficient and green, when compared with legacy offerings. "With the introduction of Nuosept BMc 422 and Nuosept W concentrate, ISP now offers all of this in products made specifically for broad spectrum antimicrobial protection," he said. "These technologies are made with a synergistic combination of preservative technologies to support formulators in their effort to reach 'green' formulation goals while meeting all of the requirements associated with in-can preservation," he added. "Nuosept BMc 442 is distinct in the marketplace in that it offers enhanced activity compared to standard BIT/MIT formulations. Nuosept W Concentrate, on the other hand, offers higher active ingredient levels, providing the benefit of extraordinary protection at lower use levels than traditional biocide products," he added.

Nuosept® BMc 422 Broad Spectrum Preservative

Dedicated to the "Greening" of biocides, ISP now offers Nuosept BMc 422. Produced from a synergistic blend of BIT, MIT and very low levels of CIT, this broad spectrum preservative is active against microbes, bacteria and fungi at use levels ranging from 0.05-0.5 percent by weight. The aqueous solution of actives will not contribute to the VOC of the product preserved and contains no formaldehyde. Nuosept BMc 422 is demonstrated as an in-can preservation system for water-based paints and coatings systems, aqueous polymer emulsions and latex systems, adhesives and sealants and many other industrial and institutional formulations. The preservative may be added at any point in the production cycle. ISP offers Nuosept BMc 422 in 20-liter pails, 55-gallon stainless steel drums and 330-gallon totes.

Nuosept® W Concentrate Broad Spectrum Preservative

Committed to the commercialization of low environmental impact biocides that offer good performance and value, ISP now offers Nuosept W Concentrate. This broad spectrum preservative combines the antimicrobial effects of CIT/MIT and Bronopol at higher concentrations than other commercial offerings, providing formulators with options for reducing cost-in-use. This concentrated aqueous solution of actives is effective at very low use levels. Typical use levels for the preservation of adhesives, tackifiers, coatings and detergents range from 0.025-0.1 percent by weight. Nuosept W Concentrate will not contribute to the VOC of the product preserved and does not contain a formaldehyde donor. ISP offers Nuosept W Concentrate in 20-liter pails, 55-gallon stainless steel drums and 330-gallon totes.
