Isilon Launches SnapshotIQ and SmartConnect Software, Creating Industry's First Suite of Clustered Storage Applications for the Enterprise

SEATTLE, Oct. 9 / -- Isilon(R) Systems, the leader in clustered storage, today announced, in conjunction with the release of OneFS(R) 4.5 (see separate press release), the introduction of SnapshotIQ and SmartConnect software applications for clustered storage, providing unmatched levels of data protection and management for mission-critical enterprise information. With the addition of SnapshotIQ and SmartConnect to its line of software applications, including SyncIQ(TM) replication and SmartQuotas, Isilon is delivering the industry's first suite of clustered storage software applications for the enterprise. Isilon's SnapshotIQ delivers the industry's first and only advanced, point-in-time snapshot product designed specifically for clustered storage, providing enterprise-class data protection for large and rapidly growing stores of digital content. With the release of SnapshotIQ and SmartConnect, Isilon delivers the following benefits to enterprise customers:
SnapshotIQ -- provides a uniquely simple, scalable and flexible way to enable enterprise-class protection and user-driven data recovery for clustered storage. Spanning across all nodes in an Isilon IQ cluster, SnapshotIQ supports an unlimited number of snapshots within a highly-scalable, single pool of storage and up to 1,024 snapshots within any single directory -- far surpassing traditional snapshot maximum limits of 255 per volume. With its Windows integration, users can self-restore files without any IT support, boosting user productivity and providing IT organizations with further operating leverage. Additionally, SnapshotIQ offers unprecedented flexibility by allowing snapshots to be set at the cluster, directory, and sub-directory levels, while also delivering breakthrough performance as snapshots typically take less than one second to create.
SmartConnect -- an intelligent, client connection load balancing software application which delivers the highest availability clustered storage solution on the market. Through a single host name, SmartConnect enables client connection load balancing and dynamic NFS failover and failback of client connections across storage nodes to provide uninterrupted access to all data while optimizing clustered storage resources. Without the need to install client-side drivers, administrators can easily manage a large and growing number of clients and rest assured that in the event of a system failure, in-flight reads and writes will successfully finish without failing. IT administrators can create cluster load balancing policies based on throughput, CPU utilization, and client connection count -- automating the task of infrastructure load balancing and optimizing utilization. Administrators can also create quality of service "zones" within a single, unified cluster, where designated groups of Isilon IQ nodes can be accessed only by specific user groups or server applications.
The newly released SnapshotIQ and SmartConnect applications join existing Isilon software to form a robust suite of data protection and data management software which is fully integrated into a single, easy to use, web-based user interface. These include:
SyncIQ -- the most sophisticated, policy-based, file replication management tool available today featuring a rich set of policies for scheduling replication tasks that can be set at the cluster, directory, or file level. SyncIQ achieves extremely fast replication across multiple clusters over the WAN and LAN by leveraging Isilon IQ's fully distributed and clustered architecture for parallelizing replication jobs across all nodes in a cluster.
SmartQuotas -- delivers the storage industry's first intelligent data provisioning and reporting solution to manage user, group and directory storage utilization within a vast, single shared pool of storage.
