IRphotonics Wins Prism Award for Photonics Innovation

IRphotonics' Thermal Spot Curing System and Innovative Approach to Curing Thermal Epoxies Receives Highest Industry Recognition at Photonics West 2010

Hamden, Connecticut, February 1, 2010 -IRphotonics, a world leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of Infrared-based materials and systems has won the international Prism Award for Photonics Innovation in the USA. The winners were selected from more than 135 products and applications by a panel of international judges and announced on January 27 at the gala dinner and awards ceremony at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square as part of Photonics West 2010.

"We are thrilled that our many years of research are not only appreciated by our customers but have now also found favor with a panel of international experts, " Commented Eric Geoffrion, CEO of IRphotonics. "Our special thanks go to our employees, without whom this technological achievement would not have been possible."

The iCure AS200 is a revolutionary inline fiber optic system that provides heat by Infrared radiation in a portable unit, delivering pinpoint and accurate control for temperature sensitive substrates and complex devices. Using infrared light to generate heat, the iCure thermal spot curing system is tailor-made for automated manufacturing processes requiring rapid adhesive curing and localized heating of bonded assemblies.

Applications include:

o Spot curing of thermal epoxies
o Bonding and fixing of plastic and glass components
o Fixing of lenses
o Temporary fixing of miniature components
o Precision assembly and bonding of semiconductor components
o Focused energy for micro soldering
o Localized heat welding of thermoplastics

About the Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation
Introduced in 2008, the Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation recognizes the world's best technological innovations in optics and photonics. Every year, a jury of 28 independent experts choose the winners in nine categories. The award ceremony is held in the USA. The awards are initiated and sponsored by SPIE, an international society advancing light-based technologies, and Laurin Publishing, a publisher of leading photonics publications.
