Iridium Supplies Satellite Phones to Swedish Armed Forces for Nordic Battle Group

BETHESDA, Md. - September 12, 2007 - In an ongoing Iridium® effort to supply critical communications to military organizations around the world, the Swedish Armed Forces has purchased Iridium satellite services for the newly formed Nordic Battle Group. Service is scheduled to be activated at the end of 2007. Through this offering, and riding on the strength of Iridium's seamless global network, Iridium will provide unmatched service quality and worldwide reach to this important defense organization.

The Iridium satellite services are being supplied under a service agreement with IDG Europe AB. They will be used for a wide range of voice and data communications applications.

"Iridium's worldwide gap-free coverage, low-latency links and high network quality provide an ideal solution for international defense forces deployed around the world, supplementing their standard tactical radio systems," said Greg Ewert, executive vice president of Iridium Satellite.

"The Swedish Armed Forces are currently using Iridium equipment with their units mobilized on international missions in Afghanistan, Kosovo and other theaters of operation," said George Falk, vice president of sales and marketing for IDG Europe AB.

The Nordic Battle Group will consist of approximately 2,400 officers and soldiers from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Ireland and Estonia. The headquarters unit was commissioned in May 2007 at Enkping, Sweden, and the full group will be ready for deployment in the service of the European Union January 1, 2008.
