IPG Photonics Announces a New Line of Fiber Lasers for Cladding, Brazing & Annealing

Fiber Laser Leader to Enter Additional Markets and Applications
with More Cost Effective Laser

OXFORD, MA, March 26, 2009 -- IPG Photonics Corporation, the world leader in high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers, announced today the design of a new line of cost effective fiber lasers specifically designed for Cladding, Brazing & Annealing applications. After analyzing current market needs & requirements and competitor's direct diode offerings, company spoke person Bill Shiner, VP of Industrial Markets, stated, "We concluded the best technology for this market segment is to offer a low cost custom fiber laser rather than fiber delivered direct diode lasers that IPG also offers. This solution allows users to utilize the highest efficiency, plug and play with rapid fiber replacement, rapid switching capability, and tremendous total reliability demonstrated by IPG with fiber laser technology. The new YLS-CL series are available operating at 2, 3 or 4 kilowatts, feature a choice of round or square fiber deliveries with various output fiber core sizes and beam shapes, come with a three year full warranty and are extremely compact. The process fibers are much more flexible and reliable in comparison to delivery fibers typically used in direct diode systems. The price of such lasers is competitive with a direct diode solution."

These devices are ideally suited for a wide range of cladding, brazing, hardening, and annealing applications in the automotive, aerospace, heavy, instrumentation, and oil industries. IPG is ramping up production of the new cost effective lasers. Volume production units are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2009. IPG has been working with key customers on specific applications with exciting results.
