Original Press Release:

Bosch Security Systems Introduces Line of High-Quality IP Network Video Products

Fairport, New York, December 2004 -- Bosch Security Systems, a full-line manufacturer of high-quality security systems and components, announces it has introduced a complete line of IP network video products for video and audio streaming, recording, playback and archiving. The VideoJet and VIP family of digital encoders and decoders offers high-quality real-time video with a range of features including wireless capabilities, streaming digital video recorders, and industry-unique local storage needed to protect against network failures and provide pre-alarm recording. These products are ideal for a wide range of security applications including highway management, transportation, correctional facilities, government, university and business campuses and large retail stores.

Bosch's family of IP network video products integrates seamlessly with existing analog products and networks. Compared to converting to all digital products, this offers users substantial cost savings by preserving their existing investments. Bosch's products can also be used to build complex digital networks or migrate from analog to digital one piece at a time, based on the user's needs.

Bosch's unique patent-pending Automatic Network Replenishment (ANR) technology incorporated in all of Bosch's encoders and its Network Video Recorder (NVR) ensures seamless recordings even if the network has been down. While conventional NVRs experience gaps in the recordings caused by network interruptions, Bosch's NVR uses ANR to automatically replenish those gaps using each encoder's locally buffered recording.

Bosch offers a complete line of IP network video encoders and decoders that allow analog video, audio, alarm inputs and relay signals as well as pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) command signals to travel over digital networks in coded form and then be decoded for use at the other end. Bosch encoders and decoders feature MPEG-2 video for DVD-quality, MPEG-4 video for greater bandwidth efficiency with high quality, or both for flexibility. Bosch's compression technology ensures maximum picture quality with minimum consumption of valuable bandwidth, limiting costs.

Single channel units offer dual streaming, which allows users to dedicate a stream at one frame rate for recording and a different stream for live viewing. These include the VIP 10, an ultra-compact affordable sender or receiver of MPEG-4 video. The VideoJet 10 expands the functions of the VIP 10 with a compact flash card or extended accessibility via wireless capability. The VIP 1000 dual encoder offers users the choice of either MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, or both for different purposes, for example viewing at one quality but long-term recording at another. The VideoJet 1000 includes a built-in hard drive as well as dual streaming and MPEG-2/MPEG-4 options. All of the above encoders and decoders feature two-way audio inputs and outputs.

Multi-channel products include the eight-channel VideoJet 8000 encoder delivering DVD-quality video at 30 images per second (IPS) in a 1U rack-mountable unit. Bosch's flagship IP network video product is the 160-channel VideoJet XPro encoder, with each channel delivering the same performance as the VideoJet 8000. The powerful, compact VideoJet XPro receives input from 160 cameras yet is only 7U high, less than half that of similar models. In addition, every channel features DVD-quality MPEG-2 video, 30 IPS in full motion and top-of-the-line 4 CIF resolution.

Long-term storage is provided by Bosch's Network Video Recorder (NVR) which features IP video, audio and alarm information recording on RAID5 fault tolerant disk arrays. The system can be extended to support any number of cameras by adding the appropriate number of NVR units. Video can be managed either in a standard web browser or through Bosch's VIDOS video management system. Alternatively, to maximize the picture quality, the video can be viewed on CCTV analog monitors using one of the hardware decoders.
