IP Infusion Delivers High-Availability Network Protocols with Enea's Accelerator Platform

Industry-Leading, Carrier-Grade Platform Accelerates Deployment of Carrier-Grade Routers and Switches

Mountain View Alliance Communications and Ecosystems Conference

STOCKHOLM, Sweden & SAN JOSE, Calif.-- Enea (STO:ENEA), the leader in advanced device software for network equipment, and IP Infusion today announced a strategic alliance through which IP Infusion will use Enea's Accelerator Platform(TM) to add high availability to their Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing and switching protocols. Enea and IP Infusion, together with Kontron and Tail-f, will demonstrate the new high-availability software at the Mountain View Alliance Communications and Ecosystems Conference, which will be hosted in San Diego from February 28-March 2.

The demonstration, one of four "Diamond Demos" selected by show management, will illustrate how IP Infusion protocols leveraging Enea's Accelerator technology can be used to enhance quality of experience for multimedia services. Utilizing a Kontron AdvancedTCA system equipped with Tail-f's NETCONF network management software, the demo will show how a video stream connected via IP Infusion's Switching/Routing Protocol can automatically take advantage of HA features such as failover to backup without service interruption.

Although routing technology revolutionized the domain of circuit switched networks, routers are still falling short of the high-availability requirements of today's converged networks, where user data forwarding is a key requirement. Infonetics Research recently reported that router downtime in large enterprise networks costs businesses 2% to 16% of their revenue. The Infonetics survey of 27 major service providers around the world (those with average revenue over $16 billion last year) found that the No. 1 capability required in their purchase of IP routers is high availability.

"Five nines availability has become the minimum requirement for the next generation of network routers," said Linda Thompson, vice president of corporate alliances at Enea. "The Enea Accelerator Platform, together with IP Infusion's ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite, provides a best-in-class platform for building, configuring, managing and provisioning next-generation, carrier-grade router equipment."

"Consumers of converged multimedia services will not tolerate poor quality of service," added Yoshinari Yoshikawa, vice president of business development at IP Infusion. "Enea's Accelerator Platform provides the HA foundation we need to deliver five nines reliability with our network and transport layer software. We look forward to working with Enea to offer equipment makers a truly carrier-grade solution for IP-based networks."

IP Infusion's ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite provides scalable, modular, high-performance Layer 2 and Layer 3 carrier-class routing and switching. The ZebOS suite supports IPv4, IPv6, Multicast, MPLS Traffic Engineering and VPN, as well as DiffServ protocol software.
