Original Press Release:
Connect One Delivers New SecureGAP Firewall Technology for M2M Applications
SecureGAP delivers most cost-effective firewall-on-a-chip in market
San Jose, CA, December 10, 2007 - Connect One(TM), the Device Networking Authority(TM), has developed SecureGAP, a cost-effective, firewall-on-a-chip solution which allows M2M devices to be safely connected directly to the public Internet. SecureGAP safeguards vital proprietary information for applicaton owners through security and data segragation which serves as a gatekeeper and natural firewall between the host processor and the Internet as well as significantly cutting connectivity costs and simplifying deployment. This technology has been introduced in the CO2128, Connect One's newest and lowest cost IP controller that provides Internet connectivity, encryption and superior security for a host processor or device. The CO2128 powers Connect One's entire range of modules and device servers.
The CO2128 works as a coprocessor, offloading all security and communication aspects from the main processor. As a firewall between the host processor and the Internet, SecureGAP prevents intruders from tapping directly into the host processor's data. By maintaining a physical barrier between the public Internet and the application as well as encrypting data using SSL3, the CO2128 makes it completely safe to transfer data to and from any host processor over the Internet via 802.11b/g WiFi, 10/100 BasedT LAN, GPRS, or dial-up connection. Architecturally designed into the CO2128 as an offload engine, SecureGAP serves as the most trustworthy and reliable option for secure and efficient connectivity, and is technically superior to software firewalls installed on the host CPU.
"With the SecureGAP architecture, Connect One fills a critical hole in today's M2M networks," noted Ariel Shulman, Connect One's Vice President of Sales. "Point-of-sale terminals, power meters, medical devices and other embedded systems are increasingly using the public Internet for connectivity, thereby increasing privacy concerns and security risks. SecureGAP completely isolates the application and its data from the Internet, and transmitted data is encrypted using the industry's best algorithms."
SecureGAP is a cost-effective robust alternative to a stand-alone firewall system as it is built into the firmware of CO2128 and requires no annual fees. A complete set of low-level drivers, TCP/IP stack and many upper layers protocols, including TCP or UDP sockets, two listen sockets, Web server with two Web sites, SMTP and POP3 clients are included royalty free.
About iChip CO2128
CO2128 overcomes time and complexity barriers of implementing secure end-to-end embedded M2M IP communications. Designers do not need to significantly reprogram applications since Connect One's iChipSec CO2128 uses the AT+i API to offload all security and networking tasks from the host application. iChipSec CO2128 also acts as a firewall-in-a-chip, protecting the application from networks attacks. CO2128 features a hardware implemntation of SSL3/TLS1 with AES-128/256, SHA-128/192/256 & 3DES for a secure client socket sessions.
CO2128 supports LAN, WiFi and all types of dial-up/wireless modems (AMPS, CDMA, CDMA2000, CDPD, GPRS, GSM, IDEN, and TDMA cellular protocols). It includes a full secure TCP/IP stack, plus upper layer protocols like SMTP, POP3, MIME, HTTP, WAP, FTP ,TELNET and SerialNet(TM) mode for serial-to-IP bridging. It also includes a Web server with two websites: one for the application and one for configuring iChipSec CO2128;
The CO2128 operates at an industrial temperature range of -40° to 85° C (-40° to 185° F) and is RoHS-compliant.
