ip.access and Tatara Systems Focus on SIP/IMS Femtocell Architecture Development

Relationship Between Industry Leaders Aims to Deliver Flexible Options for 3G Femtocell Deployment

CAMBRIDGE, UK and ACTON, MA - March 29, 2007 - ip.access, a leading developer of femtocells and picocells, and Tatara Systems, a worldwide leader in mobile services convergence platforms, have today announced the companies are collaborating to integrate ip.access' award-winning Oyster 3G(tm) femtocells with the Tatara Mobile Services Convergence Portfolio of products. The combined solution will help mobile operators to realize the advantages of an all-IP approach to femtocell integration in today's SIP-based IP networks, thereby reducing network costs and enabling new services.

ip.access' Oyster 3G femtocell has been designed to operate in a variety of architectures, including the company's own 3G Converge(tm) network solution, and this arrangement with Tatara further extends the flexibility and choice available to network operators.

A SIP-based version of the Oyster femtocell will integrate into the mobile operator's core network through the Tatara Convergence Server using standard communication protocols (i.e. VoIP and SIP). This solution can give mobile phone users with standard 3G handsets the same experience for voice and data services within the femtocell as they receive in the macro network, while at the same time allowing the operator to reduce costs by routing traffic through an IP network.

"We are very excited by the possibilities that working with ip.access offers us to further enhance our innovative convergence solutions for operators, thereby enabling us to provide their users with advanced services. We chose to collaborate with ip.access because of their existing experience and success in the cellular over IP market, as well as their reputation for innovative and solid design," said Steve Nicolle, President and CEO of Tatara Systems.

The announcement of this collaboration marks a further milestone in the rapid development of 3G femtocell technology. For ip.access, working with Tatara Systems is an important step in the development not only of femtocells but also in the path to fixed mobile convergence.

"Mobile operators are keen to deploy femtocells in today's networks, and are exploring a range of options for bridging the gap between current 3G technologies and the full availability of IMS at some point in the future," said Nick Johnson, CTO of ip.access. "We are delighted to be working with Tatara Systems to provide flexible options for femtocell deployment. By combining our respective knowledge and integrating our technologies, we can give our customers more options to bring femtocells to market faster."

About ip.access
Based in Cambridge, UK, ip.access ltd (www.ipaccess.com) is a leading manufacturer of cost-effective picocell and femtocell infrastructure solutions for GSM, GPRS, EDGE and 3G. These solutions bring IP and cellular technologies together and solve in-building access problems for mobile operators, opening up new revenue streams while defending existing business.

Oyster 3G(tm) is the home access femtocell that dramatically increases 3G cell capacity and coverage; improves quality of experience; and drives down costs. Oyster 3G is ready for today's mobile networks and tomorrow's IMS infrastructure. 3G Converge(tm) is a flexible access architecture that employs both radio-centric and IMS-centric options to provide reliable and cost-effective femtocell service in a mobile carrier's network.

nanoGSM picocell provides GSM, GPRS and EDGE coverage and capacity for offices, retail outlets and, using satellite backhaul, passenger aircraft, ships and in remote rural areas. With over 18 live networks around the world and many more being deployed, ip.access is the partner of choice for operators competing in the new converged marketplace.

ip.access counts Scottish Equity Partners, Rothschild Gestion, Intel Capital, Amadeus Capital Partners and Motorola Ventures among its shareholders.
