Iomega Announces Never Down(TM) Software: A New Safety Net for Windows PCs

Never Down(TM) Software Now Shipping With Iomega High Capacity eSATA Desktop Hard Drives

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 19 - Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM), a global leader in data protection and security, today announced a brilliant new tool in the defense against data disasters: Iomega® Never Down(TM) software for Windows PCs utilizing an eSATA interface.

Launched in conjunction with several of Iomega's new high capacity eSATA interface desktop hard drives which are increasing in popularity with home office and small office users, Never Down(TM) software is a system protection program that combines total system backups with instant system recovery. With Never Down software, users can easily boot and work from their backup drive before they even replace their failed hard drive.

"Every system setting, every software application, every data file on the primary hard drive can be protected with Never Down(TM) software," said Peter Wharton, vice president of marketing, Iomega Corporation. "And unlike most backup programs, you can ensure you've got a working backup copy by booting from it anytime you want. A user can literally run their system from their backup drive. Never Down backup software is easy-to-use and in a class of its own when it comes to providing peace of mind for millions of Windows desktop users."

More About Never Down(TM) Software
Never Down(TM) software works by keeping a complete, uncompressed backup copy of a Windows laptop or desktop computer's system drive on an external eSATA hard drive. The speed and performance of the eSATA 3.0 Gbits/sec interface, up to 6 times faster than USB 2.0 (Hi-Speed USB), ensures that backup, recovery, and operation from the external drive proceeds at internal hard drive speeds.

"Iomega® Never Down(TM) software is changing people's thinking about backups for the home office and small business systems," continued Wharton. "Other backup programs are like an insurance policy that helps you rebuild your home or your office after a disaster, but those backup programs take time and you never really know how well you're protected. Never Down(TM) software is like having another house or office. You can actually run your system from your backup drive; you don't have to interrupt your work while you wait for a PC repair."

Unlike a RAID 1 setup, where all data is copied to two drives at once (a process known as mirroring), Never Down(TM) creates backup copies manually or through Microsoft's Scheduled Task Wizard. The advantage for Never Down(TM) users is that they can always revert back to their last intact backup copy and continue their work, whereas viruses and hacker attacks can disable both drives in a RAID 1 array simultaneously.

Other hardware or software disasters that can disable the system drive without warning, like data corruption errors, some viruses, and accidental file erasures, do not affect the current Never Down(TM) backup copy. (The best defense is to remove the backup copy from the computer system.) Users can immediately reboot from the backup and continue their work. And Never Down(TM) software is simple to use, stripping away complicated backup options to focus on reliable full backups and drag-and-drop restores, making Never Down(TM) easy to understand and easy to use. Recovering an accidentally erased file is as easy as using Windows Explorer to copy the file from the backup drive.
