IOGEAR Minimizes Cord Chaos with Ultra-Wideband Hub & Adapter Kit

Users can wirelessly transfer files at record-breaking speeds

IRVINE, Calif., June 5 - With the introduction of IOGEAR's new Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology-based product, the UWB Hub & Adapter Kit, residential and small and home office (SOHO) users can eliminate cables in workplaces and living rooms without compromising file transfer speeds.

The Hub contains four USB 2.0 ports enabling connectivity to devices such as printers, scanners, MP3 players and external hard drives. Users wirelessly connect their laptops or PCs to the Hub up to 30 feet away with the pre-paired USB adapter included in the Kit. With UWB technology, file transfers are facilitated at record speeds of up to 480Mbps. Since all components are connected centrally at the Hub, cables and excess office wiring can be significantly reduced.

IOGEAR's Kit is based on WiMedia's Multiband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM), a Wireless Personal Area Networking (WPAN) technology for transmitting data quickly and with low power consumption. It also features high-bandwidth capabilities and internal filtering, eliminating interference with microwave ovens, Bluetooth cell phones and cordless telephones, among other wireless devices.

ABI Research reports that the UWB market is poised to achieve widespread commercial success, possibly reaching 300 million shipments by 2011(1), while Frost & Sullivan predicts this year's unit shipment of UWB products to be around 2.8 million, with revenues of $36.5 million.(2)

"IOGEAR continually seeks out and brings new technologies to market, and is one of the first companies in North America to integrate Ultra-Wideband into its product offering," said Sampson Yang, chief executive officer at IOGEAR, Inc. "UWB offers the benefit of high-bandwidth file transfers at low power, and with a range of 30 feet, it is ideal for SOHO and household environments. With our UWB Hub & Adapter Kit, these users can save power, clear office clutter and wirelessly stream files without interruption."

IOGEAR will display the UWB Hub & Adapter Kit and preview its upcoming UWB products at COMPUTEX Taipei 2006, held in Taiwan June 6-11, 2006, at booth #901.
