Millermatic 350 and 350P and Bernard Q300 Combine to Increase Productivity, Lower Costs

APPLETON, Wis., August 7, 2006-Miller Electric Mfg. Co. announced that it will now integrate Bernard® 15-ft. Q300 MIG guns with Centerfire(TM) consumables on its Millermatic® 350 and 350P inverter power sources. The Q300 delivers the same high-quality performance as the previously bundled Roughneck 4012 gun, but has been engineered in a lighter-weight, cooler-running package to help improve operator comfort and productivity. The included Centerfire consumables help minimize downtime and costs associated with nozzle and tip changeovers and last an average of three times longer than competitive brands.

Superior Machines, Superior Guns
The Millermatic 350 and 350P and Bernard Q300 integration is part of an ongoing initiative to provide the industry with packaged welding solutions and follows only months after Miller's announcement to feature Bernard Q-Guns on its industrial wire feeders and select MIG runner packages. Millermatic 350 and 350P inverter power sources are already known in the industry for superior arc performance, especially on thin-gauge aluminum, stainless steel and steel applications. The Q300 has been specifically chosen to complement that performance and replaces the Roughneck 4012 at no additional cost.

"After end-user trials and lab testing at both Bernard and Miller, this uniquely configured Q300 gun was created to match the high performance of the 350 and 350P, while also offering the benefit of being lighter, more flexible and cooler-running," states Bill Giese, product manager, Bernard.

The Q300 is a 300-amp, 100 percent duty cycle, air-cooled gun with a 15-ft. power cable. Testing has shown that this MIG gun delivers an equal amount of power to the weld as a 400-amp gun when using mixed gases [Argon/CO2], but it is 20 percent lighter and more flexible for greater operator comfort and improved maneuverability in multiple welding positions.

The Centerfire consumables included with the Q300 feature an easy-to-change tip design to minimize downtime and costs associated with changeover, and offer superior gas coverage to help lessen rework.

"The Q300 makes it easier for welding operators to manipulate the gun into tight spaces because it is lighter and more flexible," adds Chris Roehl, product manager, Miller Electric. "Plus, field tests have shown that you'll get an extended life from the Centerfire consumables. Both features really complement the performance that the Millermatic 350 and 350P already offers."

Special Features
The Millermatic 350 and 350P inverter power sources offer 208/230/460 or 460/575 V single- and three-phase input power, a duty-cycle rating of 60 percent at 300 amps/32 volts, a 25 to 400-amp output, and LVC(TM) (Line Voltage Compensation). Compared to competitive machines, the pulsed MIG welding capabilities of the 350P model help reduce weld spatter, provide higher deposition rates and deposition efficiency and enhanced weld bead appearance on aluminum as thin as 19-gauge.

The Bernard Q300 MIG gun with Centerfire consumables complements those benefits to ensure that welding operators continue to achieve the top-quality performance expected from the Millermatic 350 or 350P power sources. The Q300 features a vented handle for cooler operation, along with a tapered body tube that creates a continuous and seamless connection between the handle, nozzle and power cable to help minimize electrical resistance and minimize heat output for greater welding efficiency and operator comfort.

Centerfire contact tips "drop-in" and lock in place without tools for quick changeovers and reduced downtime. The design also provides better electric conductivity to enhance arc performance and improve heat dissipation for longer tip life, while Centerfire nozzles feature a built-in spatter shield for smooth gas flow. Each Q300 gun bundled with the Millermatic 350 and 350P features a .045 diameter Centerfire tip and flush nozzle, which complements recent upgrades to the Millermatic 350P model, including a .035/.045 stainless steel pulse program that helps increase deposition rates and efficiency.
