Tripp Lite Debuts New UL-listed Inverter/Charger for Sensitive Ambulance Equipment and Other Emergency Services Applications

Chicago, IL (March 4, 2003)-Tripp Lite, a world leader in the manufacture of power protection equipment, introduces its new UL-listed PowerVerter® EMS1012UL Inverter/Charger with an integrated charging system to provide automatic, uninterruptible DC-to-AC power for critical emergency medical equipment. Tripp Lite's EMS1012UL offers several protection features specifically designed for the emergency vehicle market: built-in Isobar® premium surge suppression, over/under voltage protection, two hospital-grade GFCI AC outlets, a hospital-grade plug, battery temperature monitoring, battery conservation control and daisy-chainable remote control.

While ambulance/EMS vehicles are on a call, the EMS1012UL Inverter/Charger keeps critical equipment constantly in service by providing automatic, uninterrupted DC-to-AC power, inverted from user-supplied batteries. While docked overnight or at a site where utility power is available, the EMS Inverter/Charger automatically delivers AC power to equipment while simultaneously recharging all connected batteries.

"Tripp Lite has greatly improved its Inverter/Charger lineup with the addition of the highly reliable EMS1012UL, designed specifically for emergency vehicle power needs," states Kim Burns, Tripp Lite's Product Manager for National Inverter Sales. "We are delighted to offer our EMS customers a quality UL-listed Inverter/Charger loaded with premium features at the lowest price point for this level of features and performance."

The EMS1012UL supplies up to 1000 watts of continuous 120V AC power from any 12V battery or automotive DC power source. When the hospital-grade plug is connected to a shore power source, commercial power passes through to connected equipment and the battery set is recharged via a 3-stage, 15/55 amp selectable charging system. The EMS1012UL includes a battery temperature sensing function with included cable that detects extreme high/low battery temperature and automatically makes adjustments to prolong battery life. This unit can also function as a UPS system, responding to blackouts and brownouts with an uninterrupted transfer to battery-derived AC output. A convenient Anderson DC input quick connector is included on the unit with an extra Anderson DC input connector included in the box (user supplies batteries and cabling) for easy battery connection. The EMS1012UL offers a large transformer design with efficient PWM sine wave and frequency controlled output power for sensitive electronic EMS equipment. The unit supports an unlimited amount of runtime with user-supplied batteries that can be daisy-chained.

The EMS1012UL is highly adaptable to a variety of EMS applications and site conditions with adjustable charger settings for wet / gel battery types and selectable line to battery power transfer voltages. A remote control module is included that can be mounted in a compartment or cabinet out of sight, while operated conveniently from within the cab or patient-care area of the EMS vehicle. For convenience, a second remote control is available to cover both areas. Users can save battery power by using the set battery charge conservation (load sense) control. This allows users to adjust the load output for prolonged Inverter/Charger power usage that may not require full load output.

Tripp Lite's EMS1012UL meets the following manufacturing standards: U.S. Federal General Services Administration (GSA) specifications KKK-A1822; Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standard 458; Canadian Standards Association (cUL) Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 107.1-M91; Star of Life Certification requirements per U.S. Dept. of Transportation and NHTSA.
