Introducing the Future of PO Pipe Extrusion in Vietnam

At an Open House from 4-5 August 2011 at its Haiphong facilities Vietnamese pipe producer Tien Phong Plastic Joint Stock Company showcased its new, innovative KryoSys pipe line for large diameter PO pipe extrusion from battenfeld-cincinnati (Vienna / Bad Oeynhausen).

The programme and demonstration sparked great interest in South East Asia and Oceania and resulted in the participation of more than 450 international guests.

The Open House began with the demonstration of an energy-efficient battenfeld-cincinnati 1,200 mm GreenPipe extrusion line with a maximum output of 1,400 kg/h, producing pipes for water & sewage applications with a wall thickness of 57.2 mm. This was followed by technical presentations illustrating the process and materials, presented by Tien Phong, its partners battenfeld-cincinnati and Borouge, as well as Mitsubishi.

The showcased GreenPipe extrusion line consists of the proven monos+ 90-37D single screw extruder with energy-efficient AC motor, the innovative KryoS 63-1200 pipe head, a CE 30 co-extruder for colour stripes and downstream equipment for pipe sizes up to 1,200 mm: two vacStream 6 m single chamber vacuum tanks, two coolStream 6 m cooling baths, a pullStream haul-off with 10 caterpillars and a cutStream swarfless planetary cutting unit.

battenfeld-cincinnati's unique internal melt and pipe cooling system KryoSys enabled a reduction in cooling length of almost 50% compared to a conventional extrusion line. Despite the remarkably short cooling length, sagging effects were substantially reduced due to the internal melt cooling already in the die head and the pipes showed measurements for ovality and thickness distribution well within the standard tolerance levels.

The KryoSys system was first introduced in 2008 and has since been successful worldwide. It was developed for efficient pipe cooling and can sustainably reduce needed cooling length and reduce energy consumption, while at the same time improving the quality of the pipes. Its main feature, the KryoS pipe head, is based on a spiral mandrel die and comes with a special melt cooling system that makes it possible to start cooling the melt in the die, which shortens the length of the cooling section and offers an increase in viscosity that counteracts sagging in the pipes.

In the KryoSys system the pipe is cooled simultaneously from the outside and the inside by an ingenious combination of water and air cooling, which also permits a shortening of the cooling section.

Tien Phong Plastic Joint Stock Company was established in 1960. The state-owned company is one of the leading producers of pipes and fittings made from u-PVC, HDPE and PP-R in Vietnam, manufactured to international standards. In recent years, it has purchased several extrusion systems from battenfeld-cincinnati, due to their proven excellent quality and performance. Tien Phong Plastic Joint Stock Company has a high commitment to quality and has now become the first producer in Asia to use the new KryoSys system to further enhance its production capacities.
