BAXL Technologies Introduces First Remotely Powered Internet Access Device for Wireless and Wired Connections

Merlot Wireless LapJack(TM) Supports Any Wiring Environment; Discreet Wall-Mounted Device Eliminates Need for CAT-5 Cabling, Changes to Existing Structures

BETHEL, Conn., June 18 -- BAXL Technologies, the leading technology solutions provider that enables the transmission of voice, data and video over existing wiring, announced today that it has developed and will introduce the Merlot Wireless LapJack(TM). This is the first remotely powered Internet access device to enable wired and wireless delivery of broadband applications over any type of existing wiring, including copper. It is expected to be available for sale beginning in the third quarter of 2007.

The Merlot Wireless LapJack integrates Wireless Local Access Network (WLAN) technology licensed from Colubris Networks, the leading global provider of intelligent WLANs for enterprises and service providers, and uses the Merlot Multimedia LapJack card from BAXL. It is 99.99 percent effective and provides secure and reliable performance for broadband-intensive applications such as Voice-over-IP, Video on Demand and IP-based video surveillance without requiring modems or power outlets. In addition, the Wireless LapJack allows separate configuration and authentication of the connections, providing organizations with more versatility and bandwidth.

"The Wireless LapJack is the first solution to combine the security of a wired broadband connection with the simplicity and flexibility of a wireless connection. This enables the use of existing infrastructure, and solidifies our position as a leader in broadband delivery," said Gus Bottazzi, CEO of BAXL.

The Wireless LapJack acts like a traditional Internet hot-spot and is ideal for organizations with any type of multi-unit property. Hotels, hospitals, universities, apartment or office buildings could implement wireless, or wired, IP-based video surveillance using its existing wiring. The product also enables Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and cable companies to provide service for properties where existing wiring has made new installations prohibitive.

"Colubris is excited to partner with BAXL on the development of the Wireless LapJack, a product perfectly positioned for organizations with wiring environments that could not otherwise support high-speed network services," said Rob Scott, CEO of Colubris Networks. "By integrating Colubris' award-winning WLAN technology into the LapJack, organizations can offer the flexibility of standards-based wired and wireless connectivity to mission-critical devices, while leveraging their existing cable plant."

The convenience of the Wireless LapJack's ability to add and sustain wired applications easily only adds to its appeal. Organizations can now deliver a full suite of applications to end users -- easily and cost-effectively.
