Intermec RFID Hardware First to Be Certified for Use in China

EVERETT, Wash., August 21, 2007 - Intermec (NYSE: IN) today announced that its passive ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID (radio frequency identification) readers are the first RFID hardware to be certified for operation in China by the country's State Radio Regulation Committee (SRRC).

Part of China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII), the SRRC ensures that products sold for use in China meet the country's standards for radio frequency devices. The committee requires compliance testing for RFID devices before they receive the necessary certification. Test results must conclude that RFID hardware meets China's newly released RFID bandwidth and standards requirements.

Intermec's RFID products have been used on a large scale in asset tracking, warehouse, and transport and logistics applications in China since 2005, bringing new levels of productivity, visibility and efficiency to the supply chains of several government agencies.

The Intermec RFID hardware approved for use in China includes:

o IV7 vehicle mount RFID reader. The IV7 is at the core of the Intermec Forklift System and is designed for serial attachment to the Intermec CV30 and CV60 vehicle mount computers. All are built to withstand the rigors of harsh, industrial environments and are sealed to IP65 ratings. The CV30 or a legacy computer acts as the local host for the IV7 to provide network connectivity and security. The IV7 includes a built-in DC-DC converter that withstands noisy input power environments.

o IF4 fixed reader. The IF4 is an RFID peripheral for applications where an edge server or Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is used for process control. The IF4 reduces the communications burden on the network and processing demand on the host PLC.

o IF30 fixed reader. The IF30 is a cost-effective, high performance fixed reader that reads and writes RFID tags in "RF" noisy environments. The IF30's receive sensitivity enables large populations of tags to be interrogated at high speeds, which is critical to many use cases involving dock doors, portals and conveyors.

o IP4 portable reader. An accessory handle for attachment to Intermec's 700 Series Color mobile computers, the IP4 combines a handheld mobile computing device equipped with PAN, LAN and WAN radios with a multi-protocol RFID radio that can be used worldwide.

Chinese certification of additional Intermec feature-rich intelligent RFID readers is currently in process.
