Intergraph® Technology Enables Bayer Technology Services to Engineer New Plant in China

SmartPlant® Enterprise toolset brings efficiency, quality and integration to world-scale process technology

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Bayer Technology Services successfully implemented advanced process technology for a new Bayer MaterialScience production site at Caojing in Shanghai, China, using Intergraph® integrated design and engineering solutions. The new process technology significantly reduces solvent and energy consumption as well as operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions.

These results are achieved, among other factors, thanks to the engineering efficiency, quality and integration provided by the Intergraph SmartPlant® Enterprise portfolio, including SmartPlant Materials, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Electrical and SmartPlant P&ID, among others.

"Using an established and efficient engineering technology, which has been well customized to fit our needs, was instrumental in designing and building a world-scale facility that will put into practice our most avant-garde manufacturing and process technologies," says Dr. Juergen S. Kussi, Head of Engineering Process & Plant Layout and Vice President, Bayer Technology Services. "Bayer Technology Services is at the forefront of modern and environmentally advanced technologies and that can only be achieved if your engineering technologies work alongside. Therefore, Bayer Technology Services is committed to the usage of Intergraph products."

Based on the good results achieved in projects such as this one, Bayer Technology Services has recently renewed its Global Alliance Agreement with Intergraph. Bayer Technology Services will continue to use Intergraph products in upcoming projects, such as five further projects in cooperation with Bayer MaterialScience at the site in Shanghai or the brownfield project at its Baytown, Texas, facility in the United States.

Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine president, said, "Intergraph has a long-standing and fruitful collaboration with Bayer, and we can only be proud that this cooperation gets reinforced in Bayer's most significant projects."

Intergraph's SmartPlant Enterprise offers a powerful portfolio of industry-leading, best-in-class design and data management solutions, enabling companies in the process, power, and marine industries to capture integrated engineering knowledge at the enterprise level for the competitive advantage needed in today's and tomorrow's market. SmartPlant Enterprise solutions enable proven productivity gains, improving engineering efficiency by up to 30 percent. This is why the majority of plants built worldwide are designed using Intergraph solutions.

The ARC Advisory Group, a leading industry analyst firm, ranked Intergraph the No. 1 overall engineering design 3D software and process engineering tools (PET) provider worldwide according to its "PET Worldwide Outlook Market Analysis and Forecast through 2015."
