Enhanced Rockwell Automation Operator Interface Terminal Sheds More Light on High-Performance Displays

Brighter displays, improved visibility and longer display life add to the cost-effective advantages of Allen-Bradley PanelView(TM) 550

MILWAUKEE, Wis., August 15, 2002 - Responding to growing OEM market needs for more affordable display panels suitable for outdoor and bright-light installations, complete automation leader Rockwell Automation has enhanced its popular compact Allen-Bradley PanelView(TM) 550 operator interface terminals.

All new PanelView 550 terminals now feature displays that are easier to see and have 300 percent longer-lasting backlights. OEMs can now use these enhanced PanelView 550 terminals in equipment orders for lumberyards, tank farms, or shipyards - installations previously off-limits to PanelView 550 because its former amber-colored halogen backlight was considered too dim to be read safely or accurately.

Rockwell Automation now uses light-emitting diode (LED) backlight technology, creating a blue-mode display that is easier to read. The brighter display also translates into longer display life. LED technology advancements have more than tripled the life of these displays, from the average 15,000 hours (life) for a halogen-lit PanelView 550 to 50,000 hours (half-life) for the new PanelView 550 with blue-mode displays.

With the PanelView 550 terminals, users can cost-effectively incorporate a high-performance operator interface into applications or machines where panel space is limited. These terminals have a minimum installed depth of 3.4 inches and flat panel monochrome display designed to lower the cost of ownership without losing the featured PanelView family functionality. Such features include advanced alarm handling, screen security, analog gauges, ATA PC memory card, universal language support, and online printing.
