New Interface Module Expands Precision Laser Microgage Applications

January 2002, Newburyport, Massachusetts - Pinpoint now offers a new computer software and interface module for coupling the popular Laser Microgage system to a PC or laptop. Readings can be acquired quickly, plotted, and analyzed right in the field for faster machinery alignment and response. This newest Interface also provides enhanced measuring resolution to 0.00001 inch or 0.25 micron.

The Laser Microgage is a highly versatile measuring and alignment system that couples a laser transmitter and digital receiver together to provide measurements of straightness, parallelism, squareness, flatness, and level. Measurements are made over ranges of a few inches to 80 feet and the Microgage is easy to set-up and use.

This new DCU-100 Interface Module is packaged in a compact, durable, aluminum housing with a serial RS232c output connector that couples directly to any serial port on a PC or laptop. A 10-foot cable with a quick-lock stainless connector attaches to the Microgage digital receiver and transfers readings to Pinpoint's versatile Capture program.

This software works with Windows and features a convenient signal indicator for fast set-up and easy use. The Capture software communicates directly with popular spreadsheet programs allowing complete data analysis, plotting, and storage. Initial customers use the Interface Module in steel mills for recording roll profiles and the position of assemblies.

Those working with metal cutting and milling equipment find the module helpful in locating and recording worn areas in their sliding stages and moving tables. Shipbuilders are putting the Microgage and Interface Module to work checking engine mounts and bearings that support long propellor shaft runs.

The Laser Microgage is a popular measuring and alignment tool that was introduced to industry in 1998; and because of its simplicity, affordability, and highly accurate measuring capability is now found in many industrial applications. The Microgage is available in a basic alignment and measuring kit with add-on modules for roll and mill alignment, precision machine tool setting, flatness checking, leveling, and other applications. The Interface Module is the newest of these add-on modules.
